TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known tlmtI, DAVID HARGER, of Des Moincs in the county of Polls, and in the State of lawn, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compound for Roofing; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear and exact description thereof. i
My invention consists in the use of the within-namcll ingredients, compounded and used substantially as follows i Coal-tar, three (3) parts, (not boiled 8iinLl, three (3) ports; quicklime, three (3) ports; sulphate of zinc one-ninetieth part; flour of sulphur, one-ninetieth.( purt; thoroug y xed in o a homoge ous mass, thereby making a eomponnd or concrete mixture for roofing and other purposes.
This mixture is designed to be used on plain, batten, old shingle, felt, paper, or metallic roofs, and to make the same fireproof it is only necessary to sift ucoot of dry sand over the surface of the .mixtureaftcr laying on the same; It is also n. superior and cheap article to put on fences, posts, and 0ut-bnildiugs, to preserve the r 7 wood, in lieu of point. Any shade of color may be given to. the mixture by simply adding any coloring-matter.
I do not wish to confine myself to nny specific proportions of the\vithinmumedingredients.
Having th s fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by LcttersPatent, is-
A roofing-composition, composed of unboiled cool-tar, sand, quicklime, sulphate of zinc, and flour of sulphufl all combined and used substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that Iblaim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 13th day of November, 1867.
