SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 739,789, dated. September 22, 1903. Application filed February 2, 1903. Serial No. 141,395. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE FRANCIS MYERS, of Pittsburg, Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Pleasure-Railway, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention is an improvement upon the pleasure railway which is described and claimed in Letters Patent No. 712,570 granted In that patent I show and claim a pleasure-railway, a can non-tunnel, a trackway leading to the breech of the cannon-tunnel, a trackway within the cannon-tunnel bore, a trackway leading from the muzzle end, and means for speeding the passage of a car through the cannon-tunnel bore. My present invention is an improvement upon said patent in that at the mouth of the tunnel I provide a gap or open space over which the car must jump as it leaves the mouth of the cannon-tunnel. This adds to the excitement of the ride and the exhilaration and is therefore very desirable.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is aside elevation of a cannon-tunnel and trackway embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 shows the cannon-tunnel in longitudinal section.
1 is the support or trestle on which the cannon-tunnel is mounted.
2 is an inclined support leading to the breech of the cannon-tunnel, and 3 is the cannon-tunnel, which may be constructed as shown in my said patent.
4 is a track on the incline with the track 5, which leads through the bore .of the cannon tunnel. Beyond the mouth of the cannon-tunnel at 7 the track extends on a trestle or support 9, returning on a downward incline and connecting with the incline track 4. Between the mouth 6 of the 2, connecting cannon-tunnel and the point 7 there is a gap in the track over which the car must jump as it leaves the cannon-tunnel, a spring 8 being preferably placed under the track at 7 in order to take up the jar when the jump is made 11 is a chain by which the car is drawn up the incline 2, and 10 is a chain by which the car is drawn through and speeded in the cannon-tunnel. These two chains may be connected by an intermediate chain 12. Other means than a chain may be employed for carrying the car through the cannon-tunnel.
In the use of the device the car is drawn up the inclined track i and delivered into the breech of the cannon-t unnel by the chains 11 and 12. It is there engaged by the chain 10, which carries it through the tunnel over the track 5 preferably at a high rate of speed.
. When the car reaches the point 6, it leaps across the gap and lands on the track at 7 and then continues its downward course to the base of the incline 2.
The skilled mechanic will be able to modify the construction and arrangement of the parts in various ways, since What I claim is- 1. A pleasure-railway havinga tunnel from which a car is delivered, a track, and a gap in the track at the mouth of the tunnel over which the car will jump; substantially as described.
2. Apleasurerailway havinga tunnel from which a car is delivered, a track, a gap in the track at, the mouth of the tunnel over which the car will jump, and means for taking up the jar when the car lands upon the track after passing the gap; substantially as described.
