SPECFICATlON forming part of Letters Patent N o. 739,315, dated Septemberl22, 1903.
Application filed November Z5, 1902. Serial No. 132,741. (No model.)
To atl whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LWILLIAM H. H. HUTTON, Jr. ,'a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Detroit, in the county` of` Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card or Picture Mounts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention consists in an improved card or picture mount comprising a sheet or board having openings or slits therein at the point where the corners of the picture or card which vis adapted to be secured thereto may lie upon the sheet, together with a corner-piece or pocket-piece secured to the back of the sheet or board and extending across or through the paper, so as toform a pocket'on the front of i the sheet in which the corner of the card or 'picture may be' inserted.
The invention further consists in the construction of such a sheet or board with tongues at the corners which the corner-piece overlaps, so as to permit of more readily inserting the corner of the picture or blank, so that if desired a double mount may be made having pockets on opposite sides, all as more fully hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a plan view of the board with the preferred form of slits therein and the corner-piece or pocket-piece. Fig. 2 is a front view of the mount complete, showing in dotted lines a picture or card mounted therein and also showing in dotted lines the'outlines of that portion ofthe pocketpiece which is on the back of the sheet or board. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the back side of the sheet, showing in dotted lines the outlines of that portion of the pocket or corner piece which extends on the front of the sheet.
'A represents a sheet or board to which aY slits; but a portion may be cut off, as shown I have shown here as vtriangular as the best g form to save material and still obtain the result desired. This piece E, I secure to the back ofthe sheet A, as shown in Fig. 3, preferably by cement or glue of any suitable kind, and in such relation to the tongue B that said tongue is overlapped by a portion of the pocket-piece E. When the two parts Aand E are thus secured together in proper relation to the card or pocket to be mounted, there are formed at such corners pockets F, in Which the corners of thecard may be inserted. v
I think it desirable to have the corner-piece E overlap the tongue for the reasons that when thus arranged the pocket formed by the piece E is always open andthe person applying the picture or mount can more readily insert the corner in the pocket, as the tongue and the picture form guides upon opposite sides thereof.
What I claim as my invention is# l. A card or picturemount consisting of a sheet or board having at its corners slits, form ing tongues, and means secured to the sheet or board and overlapping the tongues thereof for engaging the corners of a card or picture.
2. A card or picture mount consisting of a sheet or board having slits at its corners to form a tongue, and a corner-piece secured to the back of the sheet or board, and overlap-y ping the front of the tongue.
3. A card or picture mount consisting of a sheet or board having slits at an angle to each other formed at corners to form a tongue, and a corner-piece having `its edges at an angle to each other and of a size greaterthan the tongue, securedto the back of the 'sheet overlapping the entire tongue to form a pocket for the corner of the card or picture.
4. In combination with a card or picture mount, having at its corners slits arranged at an angle to each other, forming tongues, of means adapted to fit over the tongues and secure the corners of a' card to the mount.
5. The combination with a card or picture 1nount,-having a slit therethrough, of means passing through the slit arranged to overlie the card or pieture to be supported.
G. The combination with a card or picture mount, having slits therethrough, forming tongues, of means tting over the tongues for engaging the card or picture to be supported.
7. In combination with a card or picture mount, having at its corners 4a slit forming a tongue, of means attached to the mat for overlying the tongue and engaging the corners of a card or picture, to hold the saine in place.
8. A card or picture mount consisting of a sheet or board having at each of its corners angular slits and a piece secured upon the back side of the sheet or board at each corner, and extending through the angular slit at the corresponding corner and overlying a portion of the front side of the sheet or board to form a pocket on said front side of the sheet or board to receive the corners of a card or picture.
9. In combination With a card or picture mount, having at its corners slits forming tongues, of means attached to the back of the mount and passing through the slits and over the tongues for overlying and engaging the corners of a card or picture to hold the same in place.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM I-I. II. BUTTON, JR.
