Definitions
- the presentinvention relates to the manufacture of paper-pulp, half-stock, binders-board, papier-mache, Sam, and fibres for textile fabrics or materials, frolnbamboo, egg, and other vegetable and woody fibrous substances, which have been previously disintegrated by the process embraced in tli e Iiettei's Patentzianted to A. S. Lymanyof New York city, New York, on the 3d day of August, A. D. 1858, and now commonly known as the Lyman steam-blowing process, or by any other equivalent process or processes.
- And tlre presentinvention consists in subjecting the material disintegrated, as above stated, directly after having been so disintegrated to a rubbing, crushing, or grinding in water, in any suitable apparatus, whereby a. fibre is produced, for half-stock, capable of being manufactured immediately into paper, binders-board, papiermach, &c. or the material can be washed while being rubbed, crushed, or ground, or after it hasbcen so ground, &c., and the fibre is then fit for textile purposes, or to be further treated with chemicals in the manufacture of pulp for the finer kinds of unbleached and bleached papers, &c.

HIPPOLYIE EMILE BAILLIERE, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO AMERICAN FIBRE COMPANY.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN! Be it known that I, HIPPOLYT E EMILE BAILLIIJRE, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Paper-Pulp; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others.skilled in the art t make and use the same.
The presentinvention relates to the manufacture of paper-pulp, half-stock, binders-board, papier-mache, Sam, and fibres for textile fabrics or materials, frolnbamboo, egg, and other vegetable and woody fibrous substances, which have been previously disintegrated by the process embraced in tli e Iiettei's Patentzianted to A. S. Lymanyof New York city, New York, on the 3d day of August, A. D. 1858, and now commonly known as the Lyman steam-blowing process, or by any other equivalent process or processes.
And tlre presentinvention consists in subjecting the material disintegrated, as above stated, directly after having been so disintegrated to a rubbing, crushing, or grinding in water, in any suitable apparatus, whereby a. fibre is produced, for half-stock, capable of being manufactured immediately into paper, binders-board, papiermach, &c. or the material can be washed while being rubbed, crushed, or ground, or after it hasbcen so ground, &c., and the fibre is then fit for textile purposes, or to be further treated with chemicals in the manufacture of pulp for the finer kinds of unbleached and bleached papers, &c.
Heretofore, in the manufacture of the steam-blown material, above referred to, intoa pulp for paper, &c., it has always been the custom for separating the fibres from the gums, glutinous, and resinous substances contained in the material, to boil it for some hours in a weak alkaline solution in an open vessel, and then to subject it to the grinding and washing operation. But I have discovered, from a close and through examination of the steam-blown material, as well as many experiments from time to time therewith, that such boiling in an alkaline solution can'be dispensed with to advantage, not only so far as regards the saving of the time and the expense of said operation, but to the product or fibre produced.
I claim as-new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent A fibre for the manufacture of paper, 8m, produced from disintegrated bamboo, &c., substantially as described.
