Description

Patented June 2, 1903.
PATENT OFFICE.
IRA MALoNE, or SAPULPAINDIAN TERRITORY.
DENTAL sucTloN-PLATE;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters PatentNo. 729,621, dated J' une 2, 1903.
Application led March 18, 190,3. Serial No. 148,347. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA MALONE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sapulpa, Creek Nation, Indian Territory, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Suction-Plates, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improved method of and means for making dental suctionplates.
The object of the invention resides in an improved method of4 and means for producing a dental suction-plate having a suction device centrally thereof formed by a projecting softrubber ring integral with the plate.
In describing the invention in detail-refer ence will be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and
wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which-'- Figure l is a perspective view showing a plate constructed in accordance with my invention. is a section showing the form attached toa plaster cast. Fig. 4 is a modified construction of the form. Fig. 5 is a section showing the modiiied construction of form attached to a plaster cast.
In constructing plates in accordance with my invention I employ a metallic form A, which is shaped similar to the generalontline of the plastic model B of the mouth and is preferably made of soft pliable metal, so'as to readily conform with slight pressure to the curvature of the plastic model. The formuA is provided with a continuous groove C, running parallelto the outer edge of said form.
In practice the form is embedded-.in the plastic model so that the outer face of the form will be flush with thesurface of the plastic model. The groove C. iszuthen iilledfwith a suitable grade ofwr'ubber and the case packed in the usual manner and the plate D vulcanized. Upon completing the plate it will be Fig. 2 is a view of the form. Fig. 3e
seen that in addition to the suction caused by the normal shape of the plate there will be formed a suction device comprising a continuous projecting rubber ring E and chamber F, which reinforces the normal suction of the plate, and hence increases its effectiveness.-
It will be noted that while I have described the form A as being embedded in the plastic model, this portion of the operation could be dispensed with and the form simply secured tothe surface of the model by Inucilage or other suitable Ineans with the same eifective result.
p In Figi is illustrated a modiiied construc= tion of the form shown in Fig. 2, in which is employed a solid plate G, adapted to be placed within a skeleton plate II, said plates being so correlated that a suitable space J will be left therebetween when same are secured to the plastic model in operative relation, the method of producing the plate D with the ein ployment of the modified construction of the form being the same as that heretofore de= scribed.
I clainl-` l-The herein-described method of produc ing dental suction-plates consisting of secur ing to the plastic model a metal form provided .with a continuous groove, filling said groove with rubber and then vulcanizing the plate upon said modelto secure said plate to said filling, .substantially as described.
. Vf2. The form herein described consisting of a metallic plate of suitable shape and having `a continuousgroove therein, as and for the purpose set forth.
lIn testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two witnesses.
` IRA" MALONE.
In presence of` i A A SAMP .IENNINGs, A. J. LIsH.
