To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, PETER P. FJELLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have inventedv certain new and useful Improvements in Sack-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to sack-holders, and has for its object the provision of means for holding open the mouth of a sack'while said sack is being filled. I

It consists of vertically-arranged spreaderarms pivoted together at their upper ends and respectivelyprovided at their lower ends with horizontally-arranged spreader-arms directed approximately at right angles to the radial plane of said vertically-arranged arms and means for securing saidvertical "arms in a predetermined spread position.

It also consists of certain other constructions, combinations, and arrangements. of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front perspective View of my said invention. Fig. 2 is a front perspective view of my said invention, showing the same suspended from a wall and holding open the mouth of a damaged sack. Fig. 3 is a front perspective view of my said invention, showing the same suspended froma bar and holding open the mouth of a new sack. Fig. 4 is a front perspective view of a modified form of my said invention.

In the drawings, 1 and 2 are vertically-ab ranged-spreader-arms, pivoted together at their upper ends, as at 3, and provided at such pivotal point with a suspending-hook 4, or other suitablermeans for suspending said arms from a supporting structure. Each of said arms is provided with a horizontally-arranged foot, as at 5' and 6, respectively, eX- tending at an angle to the radial plane of said vertically-arranged arms. To each of said vertically-arranged arms is pivoted, as, respectively, at 7. and8, a second vertically-arranged arm 9 and 10, respectively, adapted to swing in the same plane with said arms 1 and 2. Each of said arms 9 and 10 is provided with a foot 11 and 12, respectively, parallel in approximatelythe same horizontal plane with said feet 5 and 6. To the upperend of said arm 9 is pivoted, as at 13, a horizontally-arranged serrated locking-bar 14, adapted to engage a projection, as 15, of any suitable construction, formedupon or secured to the upper end of said arm 10. Said construction may be suspended by said hook from a wall 16 or bar 17 or any other suitable supporting structure.

In the modified form (shown in said Fig. at) the arms 9 and 10 and feet 11 and 12 may be omitted and the bar 14 may be pivoted, as at 18, to said arm 1 and adapted to engage a projection, as at 19, formed upon or secured to said arm 2, which modification and others in minor details may be made within the spirit and scope of my said invention.

In operation when said invention is used for holding open the mouth of a new'sack, as 20, said feet 5, 6, 11, and 12 are preferably all inserted in the mouth of the sack, as in Fig. 3. The lower ends of the arms 1 and 9 are then simultaneously spread apart from said

2 and 10 and locked in their parted condition by said bar 14. If, however, the sack, as 21, be ragged at the mouth,a portion of the ragged edge is inserted between said feet 5 and 11, and another portion of said edge is inserted between said feet 6 and 12. Thelower ends of the arms 1 and 9 are then spread apart from the lower-ends of the

2 and 10 .and are locked in position by said bar 14,

which simultaneously operates to clamp the edge of said sack tightly between said feet 5 and 11 and 6and 12, respectively. The weight of the sack may, if desired, rest partly upon the floor'or other underlying support.

In a sack-holder, the combination of two vertically-arranged "arms pivoted together near their upper ends and each provided with a horizontally-arranged foot directed at an angle to the radial plane of said arms, a third vertically-arranged arm, pivoted to one of the first said arms intermediate of the ends thereof and provided with a foot parallel with the foot of said one of the first said arms and ap- IOO end to said third bar and adapted to engage an anchorage carried by said fourth bar, sub- 10 stantially as described.
