To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, J OSEP LEWANDOWFSKI, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Allegheny, in the county of -Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in on rtain-fixtu res, and has for its primary object the provisionof novel and effective means for the securing of curtains to the supporting-pole without the aid of the ordinary rings and pins.

Briefly described, my invention consists in providing an attachment to be applied to the ordinary curtain poles, which attachment.

Means may be provided, such as cords, attached to the device and extending downward to a position where they may be easily engaged and operated, whereby to release the device and permit the disengagement of the curtain, if desired.

The device or attachment comprises an open link or frame 1, the opening in which is somewhat curved and larger at one end than at the other. In the enlarged end 2 of this opening the curtain-pole 3 is received. In

The lever carries an ear or lug 9, to which is pivoted a pawl 10, adapted to engage with teeth 11 on the periphery of the frame or link 1. This pawl is normally held in engagement with said teeth by means of a spring 12, at-

tached at its one end to the frame or link and at its other end to the pawl. Acatch l l is provided on the pawl for convenience in lifting the same to disengage from the teeth 11.

I may, if desired, provide the pawl with an" eye 15 and to the front endof the frame oropen link I attach a bracket 16, provided in its upper end with a roller 17. Attached to the eye 15 is a cord 18, which is passed over the roller 17 and led down to a suitable point, where it may be easily engaged. Whena pull is made on this cord, the pawl 10 will be raised, and the action of the spring 12 pulling the pawl forward draws the lever 7 forward, allowing the hook end of the lever to recede from the binding-rod and permitting the latter to move back in its slot whereby to loosen the curtain. For pulling the lever backward or downward to tighten the bin ding-rod 5 I mayattach-a cord 19 to said lever. The attachment is shown in position on the pole with the lever projecting rearwardly. It will be evident, however, that it may be placed upon the pole in any desired manner. The pole is supported in the ordinary brackets 20. To secure the curtain, the latter is merely passed over the curtain-pole and the lever then actuated to force the hinding-rod up against the curtain and bind the same against the pole, as seen in Fig. 4.

If desired, I may employ set-screws 21 for fastening the device to the pole 5, though generally I have found that the same remains in position without such fastening means.

While I have shown and described the device in detail as it is practiced by me, yet it will be evident that various slight changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention.

Having fully described myinvention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In combination with a curtain-pole, a securing device for the curtain comprising an open link or frame, a binding-rod carried thereby and movable in the link or frame, a pivoted lever carried by the frame and provided with a hook end to engage and actuate the binding-rod, and a spring-held pawl carresaao ried by the lever and engaging the link or frame to hold the lever in the locked position, substantially as described.

2. In combination with a curtain-pole, asecuring device mounted thereon for binding the curtain thereto and comprising an open link or frame, a pivoted lever carried thereby and engaging a binding-rod mounted in the link or frame, and means carried by the lever and engaging the link or frame for holding the lever in the closed position, substan tially as described.

3. In combination with acurt-ain-pole, a securing device for the curtain mounted on the pole and comprising an open link or frame, a lever pivoted to the frame, a binding-rod mounted in the link or frame and engaged by said lever, and means for locking the leverin the closed position to hold the'binding-rod against the curtain and bind the latter between the rod and the pole, substantially as described.

In combination with a curtainpole, a securing device for fastening the curtain thereto and comprising an open link or frame, a pivoted lever carried by said frame, a binding-rod mounted in the frame and engaged by said lever, a pawl carried by the lever, and a spring for holding said pawl in engagement with the frame to secure the lever in the locked position, substantially as described.
