Description

PATENTED'FEB. 17, 1963.

A. D. SKINNER. BAG HOLDER.

APPLICATION FILED AUG. 23, 1902.

NO MODEL.

WWI wows UNITED ST TES PATENT OF ICE.

*ADo D. SKINNER, OF GRAND FORKS, NORTH DAKOTA.

.BAG -HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 721,101 dated February 17, 1903.

Application filed August 23,1902. Serial No. 120,838. (No model.) I

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, 'ADo D. SKINNER, a citizen of the United States, and, a resident of Grand Forks, in the county of Grand Forks and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Bag- Holders, of which the following is a specification. 7

My invention relates to bag-holders.

More particularly stated, my invention comprises a banana-rack for shipping bananas without injury to the fruit.

For these purposes my invention consists in the following construction and combination of parts, the .details of which will first be fully described and the features of novelty then set forth and claimed.

Figure 1 represents a "perspective view of a banana-holder to which I have applied my improvements. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view showing a device for locking the rack in its open position. Fig. 3 is a side elevation showing the rack closed. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the hinges upon which the bag-holder is folded.

Inthe drawings, 1 represents an open-work or skeleton panel, of which there are four. These panels comprise vertical uprights 2 and cross-pieces 3. V k

In the drawings I have shown a rack made up of four panels, each of the panels being hinged together by hinged joints 4, the arrangement being such that the panels may be folded in any direction and assume the position shown in Fig; '3. The banana-bag 5 is made of cloth or other flexible fabric and tied or otherwise secured, preferably at four points, respectively, to the sides of each of the four panels. When the folding rack is in position, asshown in Fig. 1, to receive the bananas, it is locked rigidly in that position by two similar diagonally-crossing bars 6 ,hav-

ing hooks Tat each end, adapted to hook over the tops of the lower set of hinges, as' shown in Fig. 2. This construction secures absolute' rigidity to the banana-rack whenopen.

When desired to ship the rack empty or to store it away for the purpose of economizing bulk, the'hook-shaped rods 6 are removed and folded, with the rack, into the flat compact shape shown in Fig.6. 1

While I have described my invention in connection with the accompanying drawings, I wish it to be understood that I do not confine myself to the details of thesame, because variations may be made of the invention within the scope of the appendedzclaim. The invention is applicable to all bag-holders.

The hinges are provided with a horizontally-disposed ring 8, rigidly secured to the hinge-joint, the leaves of the hinges being provided with slots 9, which permit the hinge to fold and unfold freely without interfering with the ring 8. The diagonal hookedbars 6 are adapted to rest in these rings 8 when the crate is open for the purpose of holding it rigidly in place.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a foldable bag-holder, the combination of a series of panels, hinges uniting the edges of the'panels, the leaves of said hinges being provided with transverse slots and the bearings with eyes adapted to fold therein, diagonal rods adapted to be received into said eyes, and a bag adapted to be secured to the edges of the panels.

In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.

ADo D. SKINNER.
