Be it known that we, JOHN L. MOHENRY and SAMUEL WILSON, citizens of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Floyd and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stock- Salters; and We do'hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improvement in stock-salters, and has for its object the provision of a receptacle adapted to contain a quantity of salt and associated with which are means for facilitating ready access of stock to the salt.

Novel details in the construction and operation of the several parts will be apparent from the detailed description hereinafter and the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, wherein an embodiment of the invention is shown for the purpose of illustration, like reference characters refer to corresponding parts in the several views, of Which-- Figure l is a perspective view of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view'thereof, and Fig. 3 is a view of a double form of the device.

Referring more specifically to the drawings, A designates a receptacle of any desirable con figuration, that shown being preferably rectangular, with an open top closed by a cover B, hinged at b to one edge of the body portion of the receptacle. At the forward end of the receptacle, adjacent the hinged end of the cover, is a trough C, projecting outwardly from the lower portion of the receptacle and leading to an opening therein,which is normally closed by a dat door D, hinged to a horizontally-disposed rod d, passing through opposite sides of the receptacle and secured in place by nuts d'.

At the rear end of the cover B is a bracket b, to which is pivotally secured a lever E, extending in opposite directions from said bracket and connected at its forward end to a spring F and at its rear end to a depending rod G. Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-

A stock-Salter ofthe character described comprising a receptacle having an outletopening, and means for normally closing said opening comprising a door, an operating-rod connected thereto, a lever pivotally mounted upon said receptacle and connected at one end to said operating-rod, and a spring associated with the opposite end of said lever; substantially as and for the purpose described.

5. A stock-Salter of the character described having an outlet-opening, and means for nor` mally closing said outlet-opening comprising ac'door adapted to open inwardly,an upwardlyextending rod connected to said door for operating the same, and a spring-controlled lever mounted upon the receptacle and connected to the upper end of said rod, the side of said receptacle adjacent to said rod being inclined inwardly and downwardly to facilitate lthe up-and-down movementof said rod; substantially as described.
