Wafzzesses y UNITED STATES. PATENT O F EDUARD FRIED'EREICHTFISCHER AND HARRY WILLIAM SCI-IMID, OFPHlLA- DELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SAD-IRON H EATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 716,020, dated December 16, I902. Application filed March 25. 1902. Serial No. 99,837. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that we, EDUARD FRIEDEREICH Freeman and HARRY WILLIAM SCHMID, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sad Iron Heaters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to sad-iron heaters'in which the sad-iron to be heated is supported upon a metallic. support perforated at the bottom to allow of the circulation of currents of hot air and flame to come in contact with the surface of the sad-iron and the providing of a rest for holding a sad-iron while cooling, the heat-producing medium being gas orv otherlike fuel. I
The object of our invention is to provide an inexpensive and efficient device for heating and supporting sad-irons while in use. We attain this'object by means of the device shown in the' accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the upper surface of the device. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the heating-bed. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the complete device. Fig. lis a plan of the baseplate.
throughout the several views. We make of metal a suitable base 6, with an ascending stem-7, to the top of which We v secure the boss or center 4. This boss or center 4 is provided with a lateral rib 5'and an expanded portion 0, forming-a chamber B. The expanded portion Gis embedded in a horizontal plate H and has openings A cut in its upper face communicating with the chamber B within the expanded portion 0. The expanded portion 0 is at one end secured to a coupling D. This coupling D is provided with an opening E for the admission of air. The end of the coupling D is provided with means for securing an india-rubber hose thereto. In the coupling D at a convenient Similar characters refer to similar. parts point we make a perforation G for the transmission of gas into and beyond the opening E. At convenient points on the upper surface ofvtho horizontal plate H we construct lugs 2 near and above the expanded portion 0 to support a sad-iron to be heated. In the horizontal-plate H within the rim 1 we make a series of perforations 8, whicli'need not be of any prescribed form or number. On the horizontal plate H we construct a rim 1, which extends about the sides of one portion of the' horizontal plate H and is prolonged higher than the lugs 2. The expanded portion 0 has cut in the upper surface and above the horizontal plate H openings A. The horizontal plate H is provided on the side away from the expanded portion 0 with a shelf 3, supwith a series of openings 9, which may be of any size or form. About the shelf3 is made a lowrim 3'.
Having described the parts of our lnvention, we proceed to explain the manner of using the same, to wit:
The several parts are securely put together in such manner that the openings A in the expanded portion 0 are uppermost, and between the lugs 2 a piece of rubber hose is the supply of gas admitted. The sad-iron to ported by the rib S. This shelf 3 is provided be heated is placed in the lugs 2 and allowed to remain as long as necessary. A second sad-iron is placed on the shelf 3 while one is heating and is therefore gradually heated and replaces the heated sad-iron while-the a same is employed.
We do not claim as our invention sad-iron heaters in the broad sense; but
What we do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a sad-iron heater, the combination of a In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures'in presence of two witnesses.
EDUARD FRIEDBREICH FISCHER. HARRY WILLIAM SGHMID.
