SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 715,983, dated December 16, 1902.

"Be it known that we, LEONARD CHRONIN- ennand J oHNE.ADAiv1s,citizens ofthe United States, residing at Findlay, in the county of4 of the invention, such as will enable others,
skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use theA same.
Our invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in trolleyfwheels, and has for its object lo produce a trolley-Wheel which will rapidly replace itself automatically when through accident itis caused to leave the trolley-wire.
Our invention further has for its object to mount sucha trolley-Wheel in its yoke so that it may be readily removed and replaced by a new Wheel when necessary.
Finally, this invention has for its object to render more secure the mounting for the trolley-Wheel by dispensing entirely with screwthreads and other frail parts.
In accomplishing 'these objects our invention consists in forming the trolley-WheeLwith conical ends having spiral grooves therein leading tothe main groove in such a manu'e'g that should the trolley-wire leave the main groove anti fall into either of the spiral I.grooves the rotation of the trolley-wheel would vlead the trolley Wire back into the main groove by means of the spiral groove.
The conical ends ofthe trolley-wheelare made hollow, and the solid hub portion is located in the center. The trolley-yoke has an inwardly-extending projection ou one arm and'an open eye on the other arm. An axle-V pin having a reduced end is passed through the eye and has its reduced eri-d seated in a socket of the projection, with the trolleywheel mounted on its reducedl part, with its hub abutting against the end of the projection and ashoulder of the axle-pin.
With the above and other 'objects in View our invention further consists inthe novel details of construction and combinations of parts, to be fully described in the following specification and clearly.set forth in the claims. j
Referring the accompanying drawings,
forriiinga part of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate same parts in the views, Figure 1 is a front elevation of a trolley-wheel made in accordance with our invention, and Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section thereof.
In the figures, l represents the yoke of the trolley, having an inwardlyextending projection 2 on one arm thereof and an open ring orv eye 3 on the other arm.
An axle-pin 4 fits in the eye 3 and has its reduced end seated in a socket 5, which ex` tends part way through the -projection 2. Where the reduced portion of the axle-pine begins there is an abrupt shoulder 6, between which and the end of projection 2 trolleywheel-7 is mounted to rotate on the said reduced portion of axle-pin 4.
The trolley-wheel 7 is composed of a central solid hub 8, which loosely fits against shoulder 6 at one end and against the end of projection 2 at the other end and the two conical hollowA shells 9 at the ends, the deep groove 10 being centrally located on the surface and the spiral grooves 11 leading thereto from the ends of the conical shells 9.
The axle-pin 4 is retained in its position by a pin 12, passing through perforations in said axle-pin and the sides of eye 3.
From the foregoing it will be seen that with a trolley-,wheelot this description. the wire ,may be more easily found by the operator, for even if it does not fall within the main which it will be `led `to the main groove.
When it is desired to remove a trolley-wheel of this type, the pin 12 is removed and the axle-pin 4, Withdrawn through the eye`3, when the wheel is free to be drawn ol of projection-.2.
