Be it known that I, AARON FRANKEL, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia,State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Insect-Screens,-of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of an insect-screen having a portion of the same adapted tobe IO uncovered, so that access may be had to the outside of an apartment or to an outer door, shutter, &c., to close or open the same without necessarily disturbing the screen proper.

Figure 1 represents a face View of a screen embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents avertical section on line w 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a vertical section on the same line showing, however, a difierent position of one of the members thereof. Fig. 4 represents a horizontal section on line 1 y,-Fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

Referring to the drawings, A designates an insect-screen or screen proper, which in the present case is known as a door-screen, but to which I do not limit myself, said screen consisting of a frame having screen material on the upper and lower portions thereof, forming fixed screens. In said screen between said upper and lower fixed screens isan opening or passage B, which has no netting, gauze, or like material thereover. O designates an auxiliary screen, which is adapted to cover said opening B, the same having on the outer- 3 5 sides thereof the vertically-extending grooves E, which are adapted to receive similarly-arranged tongues F on the inner sides of the frame of the upper fixed screen, whereby said screen 0 is held in position on the frame A and may be raised and lowered on the tongues F. It will be seen that when the screen is in operative position it forms practically a conor shutters to close and lock or to unlock and open the same, the screen 0 is raised, whereby the opening B is uncovered, and the hands 5 5 may then be passed through'said opening to reach the said outer door or shutters, it being evident that such operation is accomplished without necessarily opening or disturbing the screen A.

Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit of my invention, and I do not, therefore, desire to be limited in each case to the same.

Having thus described my invention, What Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A screen consisting of a frame, upper and lower screen portions stationarily connected therewith, said portions havinga passage between them, and an auxiliary movable screen interposed between said upper and lower screens covering said passage.

2. A screen consisting of upper and lower stationary screen portions, a passage existing between the same, a movable screen adapted to occupy said passage,and tongue-and-groove connections respectively on the sides of the frame of the upper screen and those of said auxiliary screen.

3. A screen consisting of a frame having fixed screens on the upperand lower portions thereof, a passage existing between said portions, and a movable screen on said frame adapted to cover and uncover said passage, said auxiliary screen having grooves in its sides, and tongues on the inner sides of the portion of the frame of the upper screen, said tongues entering said grooves.

4. A screen consisting of a frame, upper and lower fixed screens thereon, said screens having a passage between the same, an auxiliary screen on said frame adapted to cover and uncover said opening, and tongues and 5 grooves respectively out-he sides of said auxiliary screen and the upper fixed screen, the upper rail of the lower screen forming a support for said auxiliary screen, When the latter is in its closed position.
