Be it'known thatrI, FREDERICK HIGPgof Methuen, in the county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new aud useful Improvement in4 Looms for weaving fabrics; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which--` i Figure 1 denotes a top viewof aioom-frame, and its lay, as provided with my invention.

Figure 2 is an endelevationzof the same.

,The purpose of my linvention is to arrest the shuttle in its box after, and to release it preparatory to, cach` throw, thc same being to-prevent a 'rebound' of theshuttle; also, injury to the pick-ers and their staves; also,

the displacement of the bobbin in the shuttle. t

In 'the drawings, A denotes tbe loom frame;` B, the lay; C, the driving-shaft of `the lay, such 'shaft being applied to the lay by cranks a`a and connecting-rods b arranged in the usual manner., .Alongside oftheracebeanie ofthe lay, and about on a level with itsV lower edge, `I arrange along rocker-shaft, d, parallel withthe lay, and support it in bearings c e, extended from the race-beam. An arm,"f, is toproject up from each end of the' shaft d. In the front sid-e oi' the shuttle-box of ,the lay there should be a passageor opening, to allow-'the` `said armmto enter the box and be borne against the shuttle. Another arm, g, extends downward from theshaft d, and between two studs, h z, exten-ding Vfrom a slider, lc, that slides transverselythrough aV puppet, 1, arranged on theloom-frame, in manner as represented.'4 The slider has a collar or stop, m, which, when forced back against one of the puppet-.heads by a springno, (pla-ccd on the slider, and so as to bear against `the said stop andthe other head of the puppet,) serves to arrest tbe'movcment of the slider in ne direction.
