Description

N0. 7l4,573. I Patented Nov.25, I902.
L. GANSZ.
SIPHON FILLING APPARATUS.-
(Applicatiog filed Mar. 22, 1902.]
(No Model.)
use the same, reference being had to the acnection with a swivel coupling having con- NITED T ATENT FFICE.
SlPHON-FILLIN G APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 714,573, dated November 25, 1902.
Application filedMarch 22, 1902.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEWIS GANSZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Siphon-Filling Apparatus; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and companying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. I
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in apparatus for use in filling siphon-bottles from reservoirs containing carbonate beverages or other liquids; and it consists in the provision of a three-way cock, one end of which is adapted to have threaded connection with a pipe which communicates with the reservoir containing the carbonate beverage, the other end of the cock having similar connection with a coupling into which is screwed the siphon end of the head of the bottle, whereby communication may be had from the reservoir to the bottle being filled and provision being made for turning the plug so as to close communication between the bottle and reservoir and open a passage-way to the atmosphere, whereby the gas from the siphon may pass off.
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction, as will be hereinafter fully described, and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification, and in which drawings Figure l is an elevation of a siphon-top as applied to my improved apparatus for filling the bottle. Fig. 2 is a sectional view longitudinally through the apparatus, showing the communicating passage way through the cock. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing a turning-plug thrown to close communication between the bottle and reservoir and in position to open communication for the exit of the gas in the bottle to the'atmosphere.
Reference now being had to the accompa- Seria1No.99,4=95. (No model.)
nying drawings by letter, A designates a cock which is threaded about one end, as at A, to be screwed into the interior of the swivelcoupling B,which has swivel ,connection with the pipe D, which is designed to lead to the reservoir containing the carbonate beverage or other liquid from which a supply is to be fed to the bottle being filled. The opposite end of said cock has a similar swivel connection with the coupling head E, into which the threaded end Fof the siphon-head is adapted to be screwed, the inner wall of said coupling being provided with interior threads. By the provision of the swivel connections described it will be noted that both the filling apparatus and the bottle may be turned in diflferent positions for convenience in filling the siphonbottle, and the three-way cock may be turned so that the aperture to the atmosphere will be downwardly disposed or in any other position about its longitudinal axis. The head of the bottle is of the ordinary construction of siphon-bottles, and when adjusted in place in the coupler is held in the position illustrated in the drawings. A valve-plug K, having three passage-ways, is provided, to which plug a handle J is connected, and said plug has a passage-way K, which when the plug is held in a certain position is in alinement with the longitudinal duct N, leading through the cock, and when in said position communication may be had between the pipe D, leading from the reservoir to the bottle through the siphon-head.
Leading into the duct K, at right angles thereto, is a passage-way M, which when the plug is turned in a certain position will close communication between the bottle and pipe D and open communication between the bottle and the outside atmosphere by reason of the exit-passage B being brought into alinement with the port K, as illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings.
In operation the valve-plug is thrown to the position shown in Fig. 2 after the siphonhead has been connected to the cock, thus allowing the carbonate beverage to pass through the longitudinal end from the pipe D to the bottle. When it is desired to close communication to prevent the gas returning to the pipe D and the reservoir, the plug is turned to the position shown in Fig. 3,. which will open communication with the atmosphere and allow the gas to make an exit, after which the plug may be turned in'the position shown in Fig. 2 for the purpose of further filling the bottle.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is.
An apparatus for filling siphon-bottles com-" prising a cock having alongitudinal passageway through the same and a duct lateral thereto,-and being exteriorly threaded at one which said threaded end is adapted to be screwed, a conducting-tube having swivel connection with said coupling, a swiveling head at the opposite end of said cock having with a threaded noseof a siphon-bottle, and a three-way turning plug adapted to afl'ord communication longitudinally through the cock or to the atmosphere through said duct leading to said plug, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses. end, an lnterlorly threaded coupling into v LEWIS GANSZ.
