ARTHUR S. ALEXANDER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GAME APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 712,231, dated 001701061 28, 1902- llpplication filed September 12, 1902. Serial. No. 123,095. (No model.)
To all whom, it may con/cern,.-
Beit known that I, ARTHUR S. ALEXANDER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Game Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear,
and exact description.
The invention relates to table-tennis or ping-pong; and its object is to provide ainew and improved game apparatus which isv simple and durable in construction and arranged to require considerable skill on the part of the players to successfully play the game.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims. i
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both views.
Figure l is a perspective view of the improvement as applied, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional side elevation of one of the sectional stakes.
The game apparatus illustrated in Fig. 1
i consists,y essentially, of stakes or posts A, at-
tached by suitabley clamping devices or other fastening means B to a table C or like sup# port, and between thesaid stakes are stretched nets D and E, extending transversely of the table and fastened by strings or the like 4to the said stakes. l
The nets D and E are disposed vertically one above the other and spaced apart to form an opening between the said nets for the passage of the ping-pong ball propelled by the players. In practice I prefer to make the lower net wider than the upper one and place the nets a distance apart equal to about double the width of the lower net. By this arrangement the game of table tennis is rendered more difficult to play, as the players in order to play successfully must propel the ball either through the opening between the nets or over the upper net.
The stakes A may be made solid; but I prefer to make each in sections A' and A2, having dowelpin connections A3, to allow of removing the upper sections A2 and with the Y same the upper net E, to permit of playing table-tennis with the single interposed net between the players, as heretofore practiced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure `by Letters Patent- 1. A game apparatus comprising stakes, and a plurality of nets stretched between the stakes and fastened at their ends to the same, the nets being vertically disposed one above the other and spaced apart, as set forth.
2. A game apparatus comprising stakes, and a plurality of nets stretched between the stakes and fastened at their ends to the same, the nets being vertically disposed one above the other and spaced apart, the upper net being of a less width than the lower net and the opening between the nets being of a larger area'than that of the lower net, as set forth.
3. A game apparatus comprising stakes made in sections, and a plurality of nets stretched between the stakes and fastened at their ends to the same, the nets being Vertically disposed one above the other and spaced apart, the lower net being attached to the lower sections of the stakes and the upper net to the upper sections of the said stakes, as set forth.
4. A game apparatus comprising, stakes made in sections, and a plurality of nets stretched between the stakes and fastened at their ends to the same, the nets being vertically disposed one above the other and spaced apart, the lower net being attached to the lower sections of the stakes and the upper net to the upper sections of the said stakes, the said stakes being removably connected with each other, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ARTHUR S. ALEXANDER.
Witnesses:
