Description

Patented Aug. l9, I902.
0. B. wss rou. WALL PAPEB- MACHINE;
(Application filed Apr. 5, 1902.)
(No Model.)
WITNESSES Nrrsr) STATES CHARLES B. WESTON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
WALL-PAPER MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 7 07,289, dated August 19, 1902.
Application filed April 5, 1902. Serial No. 101,608. N model-l To alt whom, it may concern/.- I
Be it known that I, CHARLES B. WESTON, a citizen of the United Stat-es, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tall-Paper Machines, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled ground color to the paper and of printing said paper. V
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form apartgln which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the samereference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view showing the application of my improvement for the purpose of grounding or applying the ground color to the paper; Fig. 2, a similar View showing the application of my improvement for printing the paperafter the grounding thereof or after the ground color has been applied thereto; Fig. 3, a perspective view of a paint-roll which I employ, and Fig. 4 an end view thereof.
In the drawings forming part of this specification I have shown at a a cylinder over -will be readilylunderstood.
rate parts of the roller at one side, as shown at 0 and securelyheld in position by the clamping of the separate parts of the roller together, and the sheet of material constituting the cover 0 is then folded around the roller, and the free edge. thereof abuts against the fold of saidgcovering at c and makes a smooth and even-covering for said roller, as
The paint constituting the ground coloring of the wall paper is placed in a trough or other receptacle b, and the roller Z) is so mounted as to turn therein, and the wallpaper 6 is passed around the cylinder at in the usual manner, and the roller 1) is held in contact therewith and revolved by any suitable means. In practice the pan or trough b and Ithe roller (1 are suitably supported in the frame of the machine, which is not shown, the relative position of saidparts being only shown in Fig. 1, and the roller?) may be be: adjusted toward or from the roller 17 by means of a screw-threaded rod h, mounted in supports i. The scraper or equalizer f distributes the paint equallyover the roller 1) and removes therefrom any surplus paint,
and by means of this operation the ground ,coloring'of the paper may be quickly and easily applied thereto.
In Fig. 2 of the drawings I have shown my improvement applied in the operation of printing wall-paper, and for this purpose I place between the roller 1) and the cylinder at a printing cylinder or roller j, on which the pattern tobe printed on the paper e is formed, and in this operation the paint is applied to the printing cylinder or roller j and transner, as may also the pan or trough d, and any suitable means may be employed for adjusting the scraper or equalizer f, and the said scraper or equalizer may be composed of any desired material, but is preferably composed of stiff textile material folded as shown.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a machine for grounding and painting Wall-paper, a cylinder around which the paper is passed, a printing-roller supported adjacent thereto and adapted to hear thereon, a paint-roller supported adjacent to the printing-roller and adapted to bear thereon, said paint-roller being supported in a trough or other receptacle, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a machine for grounding and painting wall-paper, a cylinder around which the paper is passed, a printing-roller supported adjacent thereto and adapted to bear thereon, a paint-roller supported adjacent to the printing-roller and adapted to bear thereon,
said paint-roller being supported in a trough or other receptacle, and being also provided with an adjustable scraper or equalizer which is adapted to bear thereon, substantially as shown and described.
8. In a machine for groundingand painting wall-paper, a cylinder around which the paper is passed, a paint-applying roller composed of two longitudinal parts secured t0- gether and provided with a covering of textile material, and a scraper and equalizer composed of textile material, and supported adjacent to said roller and adapted to bear thereon and adjustable with reference thereto, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 1st day of April, 1902.
CHARLES B. WESTON.
