GIBBONS L. KELTY, on NEW YORK,- N. Y.
Letters Patent 1 Vo. 70,226, dated October 29. 1867.
IMPROVED WINDOW-SHADE MATERIAL dilly: firlgttnle ritual: in in time itttters game m nmkiagrmt ti figs same.
rro ALL WHOM IT MAY concerns:
Be it known that I, GIBBONS L. KELTY, of the city and State of New York, have invented and made a certain new and useful Improvement in Window-Shade Material; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the said invention.
Heretofore rolling window-curtains, known in the trade as window-shades, have been made with various designs and characters of pictures and ornaments painted upon-their surface. On account of the cheapness of a said window-shades, handsome and elaborate designs and artistic paintings have been too expensive. In many instances the shade is desired to modify the amount of light admitted to the room, but for appearance lace curtains would be very much preferred, and in the evening the back of a window-shade presents a blank and unsightly appearance.
Ehe nature of my said invention consists in a window-shade material, printed upon its surface in imitation of lace curtains, whereby the window-shade possesses the usual character for modifying the transmitted light,
- and at the same time giving the elegant appearance of lace curtains, and saving the cost of the same. By lace curtains I mean the curtains known as embroidered or tambour-lace curtains, and the woven-lace curtains or Nottingham curtains; and the printing upon such shade-fabric may be in imitation of divided curtains, hanging straight down, or of a lace curtain looped upon one or both sides. If desired, white flock may be applied to the curtain before the printing is dry, so as to increase the handsome appearance of the curtain material.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- 4 A window-shade material, formed with a printed ground representing the meshes .of lace curtains, and in combination therewith I claim the ornamental printed figure representing the embroidered work of lace curtains.
Dated this first day of August, A. D. 1867.
