SKATE CLAMP.
(Application filed Feb. 4, 1902') (No Modal.)
ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. I
JOHN H. MORRISON, or KINGSBRIDGE, NEW YORK;
SKATE-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 702,145, dated June 10, 1902.
Application filed February 4, 1902. Serial No. 92,582. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: I V
Be it known that 1, JOHN H; MoRRfsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kingsbridge, in the county of New York and State of NewYork, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skate Clamps, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved clamp for holding skates in the operation of grinding or sharpening the same and with this and other objects in viewthe invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompa nying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which- I I Figure 1 is an end view ofmy improved skate-holder and showing the method of using the same, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the construction shown in Fig. l. v In the practice of myinvention Iprovide a clamp for the purpose specified, which comprises a bottom portion or base a, with which I are connected two vertical screws 17, each of which is provided with two clamp -nuts 0, which are in the form of ordinary thumb-n utsf The screws 17 are connected with the base por tion a at or near the opposite ends thereof in" any desired manner, and mounted on these screws between the clamp -nuts 0 are two I clamping-bars e, the central parts of which are preferably curved backwardly, and in practice the runner f of the skate g is passed between the clamping-bars e and securely clamped in position by means'of the nuts 0." I have also shown in the drawings a table It, provided with supports 2', in which is mounted a shaft j, having an emery or other wheel is, and the object of providing two nuts-on each of the screws 17 and mounting the clamping-bars a between the same is to provide means for vertically adj ustin'g' the clamp or the bars thereof, between whichthe runner of the skate is passed, so that the said run- I per will be in direct line with the center of thejstone it when the runner is held in proper position, as shown in Fig. 1, and by this means I provide for grinding the bottom surface of the runner smoothly and evenly and avoid the grinding thereof at the opposite edges.
- The table 71. and stone is are only shown for the purpose of indicating the operation of the device and the object of making the clamp in the manner described, and any suitable support may be substituted for said table. .It will be understood, of course, that the clamp is moved back and forth across the table, so as to grind the entire bottom portion of the runner of a skate, and my invention is not limited to the table or support, as it is .possible to operate the device without any other support than thesupport of the stone.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, anddesire tose'cure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A device of the class described comprising a base,vertical screws near the opposite ends thereof, each of which is provided with two set-nuts and two clamping-bars mounted on said screws between said nuts, substan @memb'ers connected therewith, two verticallyinovable clamping-bars mounted on said end members, and two nuts mounted-on each of said end members above and below said bars, whereby the vertical position of said bars Witnesses:
