SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,349, dated June 3, 1902. Application filed. February 24, 1902. Serial No. 951383. (No model.)

Beit known that 1, PETER JUNG, a citizen of the Uni ted States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of-Louisiana, have invented new and useful Improvements in Mosquito-Bar or Canopy Supports forBedsteads,of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to mosquito-bar or canopy supporters for bedsteads, more particularly metallic bedsteads; and it consists in a certain specific construction the novelty,

utility, and advantages of which will be fully understood from the following description and claims when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the head portion of a metallic bedstead equipped with myimproved support, and Fig. 2 an enlarged detail section illustrative of the manner in which the main frame and brackets of my improved support are connected to the headposts of a metallic bedstead.

Referring by letter to the said drawings, AA are the head-posts of a metallic bedstead, which may be and preferably are provided in their upper ends with threaded sockets to receive the threaded shanks of the usual removable tops a.

B, O, D, and E are the main frame, the slide-bars, the slidable bar, and the brackets, respectively, of the improved support. The main frame 13 comprises front and rear crossbars I) c and side bars 0., which extend rearwardly beyond the cross-bar c and are provided at their rear ends With eyes 6, designed to receive the shanks of the tops a. The slide bars (I are disposed below the main frame and in planes within the side bars 6 0 thereof, and they are connected to the front and rear cross-bars of said frame by hangers f. On the said slide-bars the slidable bar D, which has eyes g, receiving or other means for holding it to the slide-bars, is designed to be adjusted forwardly and rearwardly for a purpose presently stated. The brackets E are provided at their upper ends with eyes 7L, designed to receive the shanks of the tops to and be interposed between the frame-eyes e and the upper ends of the posts A, as shown. At their lower ends the brackets are provided with curvilinear portions t, designed to bear against the forward sides of the posts A,

while at intermediate points of their length they have forwardlyreachingarms j, connected to the side bars of the main frame B. The lower end portions 91 of the brackets may be and preferably are detachably connected to the posts A by screws 7., let into screwtapped apertures in the head-posts. Said screws 7t, however, are not essential, and therefore When desired the weight imposed on the brackets may be depended on to retain the bracket POI'tlOllSt in position with respect to the posts Awithout departing from the scope of my invention.

It will be readily appreciated from the foregoing that'my improved support is readily attachable to and detachable from ordinary metallic bedsteads, such as at present in use, and this without any change in the bedstead, except the provision of the screw-tapped apertures in the head-posts when the screws 79 are employed. When the screws 7c are dispensed with, it will be observed that no change in the construction of the bedstead is necessaryin order to attach my improved support thereto.

In using the support the mosquito bar, which I have deemed itunnecessary to illustrate, is attached at what may be termed its apex to the slidable bar D through the medium of rings (not shown) on said bar or other suitable means. WVhen the mosquitobar is thus connected to the bar D and said bar D is at or adjacent to the forward ends of the slide-bars O, the mosquito-bar will be supported and permitted to fall gracefully over the bedstead. It will also be observed that when the rod 1) is pushed to a point at or adjacent to the rear ends of the bars 0 the mosquito-bar will be carried out of the way, and hence the bed may be made up quite as readily as it no mosquito-bar were employed. By virtue of the slide-bars 0 being disposed below the frame B and in planes within those of the side bars of said frame it will be observed that there is no liability of the upper portion of the mosquito-bar catching against the frame B or the brackets E incident to the forward and rearward movements of said mosquito-bar, which is a material advantage.

In addition to its efficiency and the facility with which it may be applied to and. removed from ordinary metallic bedsteads my improved support is advantageous because it is calculated to enhance rather than detract from the ornamental appearance of a finelyfinished bedstead.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination with the head-posts of a bedstead; of a mosquito-bar or canopy support comprising a horizontally-disposed main frame connected to the head-posts and having side bars and front and rear cross-bars,brackets interposed between the head-posts and the side bars of the main frame, slide-bars disposed below and in planes within those of the side bars of the main frame, hangers connecting said slide-bars to the front and rear crossbars of the main frame, and a bar D held to and slidable fore and aft on the slide-bars, and adapted for the connection of a mosquitobar or canopy.

'2. The combination with the head-posts of a bedstead having threaded sockets in their upper ends, and also having removable tops a with threaded shanks disposed in said sockets; of a mosquito-bar or canopy support comprising a horizontally-disposed main frame having side bars provided with eyes receiving the shanks of the removable post-tops, and also having front and rear cross-bars, slidebars disposed below and in planes within those of the side bars of the main frame, hangers connecting said slide-bars to the front and rear cross-bars of the main frame, a bar D held to and slidable fore and aft on the slidebars, and adapted for the connection of a mosquito-bar or canopy, and brackets having eyes attheir upper ends receiving the shanks of the post-tops and interposed between the eyes of the main frame and the ends of the posts, and also having curvilinear portions at their lower ends bearing against the forward sides of the posts, and forwardly-reaching arms connected to the side bars of the main frame.
