To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, DAVID H. HOUSTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hunter, in the county of Cass and State of North Dakota, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Photographic-Roll Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to a photographic-roll holder in which can be used cartridges of sonsitized fiim.

lhe object of my invention is to provide a daylight -loading photographic roll holder adapted to use the cartridge-films which are on the market.

Another object of my invention is to provide a spool-holding roll-holder, said rollholder having a front opening, in which opening there is a slide to exclude light from the sensitized film, so that the roll-holder can be separated from a camera and plate-holders be used interchangeably with the roll-holder. My roll-holder has two compartments for holding the spools of sensitized film and a si ht-aperture in and through the film-support board and is so arranged that a good light can be obtained in the passageway leading to the sight-aperture, so as to allow of indicia being observed and indicate the position of the sensitized film in the roll-holder.

My invention consists of a daylight-loading photographic-roll holder suitable for using spools of cartridge-film having a sight-aperture through the film-support board of the rollholder, and has combination of parts which are hereinafter described, and the novel features pointed out in the claims of the specification.

In the drawings which form part of this specification similar characters of reference denote similar parts.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my roll-holder, taken from the rear. Fig. 2 represents a central sectional plan view of my roll-holder. Fig. 3 represents a perpendicular sectional View taken on the line X X of Fig. 2, showing a section through the rollholder between the guide rollers and the spools and showing the sightaperturc covered by a transparent colored covering. Fig. 4 represents a front view of my roll-holder, showing the front side in place.

In the drawings, A designates the casing of the roll-holder, which casing has in its top two keyholes B, in which keyholes are positioned the square top ends 0 of the spoolwinding devices, and on the lower ends of said winding devices are pivoted the spools D for the sensitized film. The casing of the roll-holder has a slide E, which slides into a slot F, and the casing has also doors G in its rear side. The casing has two side compartments P and a central compartment H between the spool-holding compartments, which central compartments lead to a sight-aperture J in and through the film-support board L of the roltholder. The sight-aperture is covered by a ruby-colored non-actinic transparent covering K. At opposite ends of the film-support board are positioned guide-rollers N; but the guide-rollers can be substituted by roun ded stationaryguides,if thought desirable. From this description, taken in connection with the drawings, the construction of myroll-holder can be understood.

In operating the roll-holder it is applied to a camera in the same manner as a plateholder, and the roll-holder is prepared for use by opening the casing of the roll-holder and placing a spool of sensitized film in position and connecting the spool-winding device, then by passing the sensitized film around in front of the rounded guides and in front of the film-support board and sight-aperture of the roll-holder and by connecting the wrapper of the sensitized film to the reel-spool. The front slide and the rear doors are then closed, and the sensitized film may be wound forward until the first number, letter, or indicia appears opposite to the sight-aperture, denoting that the sensitized film is in position for the first exposure upon a view. The winding forward of the film is done upon the reel-spool by turning it with a winding-key in the direction shown by the arrow-mark, and if by accident the film is wound a little too far it can be readily adjusted back by simply placing the winding-key upon the shaft of the supply-spool-winding device and winding backward, meanwhile observing at the sight-aperture for the indicia that indicates the movement of the sensitized film.

From the foregoing description it can be understood that I provide a photographicroll holder adapted to be used interchangeably with plate-holders in the same camera and that my invention is a decidedly practical roll-holder.

I claim 1. In a photographic-roll holder the combination of a casing having a front opening, a slide in said front opening, a film-support having two of its edges connected to the outside walls of said casing, said film-support havingan observation-aperture therethrough, rounded guides for the film positioned in line with the said film-support, winding and supply chambers located in the rear of said filmsupport, winding and supply spool pivots in said chambers, and a winding device adapted to turn the reel-spool, the casing" being arranged to open and allow access to the interior thereof.

2. In a photographic-rell holder the combination of a casing having a front openinsz', a slide in said front opening, rounded filmguides positioned in the right and left interior front corners of the casing, a film-support provided with an observatien-aperture therethrough, said film-support positioned in line between the rounded film-guides, the film-support having; two of its edges connected to the interior parts of the outside Walls of the casing, the casing having a central compartment open at its rear side,through which central compartment observation can be had through the observation-aperture in the film -support, two closed side compartments, said side compartments formed by Walls connected to the film-support on opposite sides of the observation-aperture and by walls forming the outer sides of the casing, a spool located in one of said side compartments, a reel located in the other of said side eompartments,andareehwinding device passing through a wall of the casing, the casing being arranged to open and allow access to the interior thereof.

In a photographic-roll holder the combi nation of a casing constructed with a filmsupport connected to the interior parts of two of its outside walls, said casing having a front opening, a slide in said front opening, a central compartment having the opening at its rear side, and being located between two side compartments, said central compartmenthavingits front wall formed by the film-support, said front wall of the central compartment having an observation-aperture therethrough, two side compartments formed by the outside walls of the casing and the film-support and the side Walls of the central compartment, a reel-winding device passing through a wall of the casing, the easing being arranged to open and allow access to the interior thereof.
