Be it known that 1, DAVID HENDERSON HOUSTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at llunter, in the county of Cass and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Daylight Loading hotographic-Roll Holders; and 1 do hereby declare the following to he a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to an improved rollholder for use in photographic cameras, in which roll-holder can be used cartridges of sensitized film having a light-tight wrapper.

One object of my invention is to provide an improved roll-holder which is made to separate from the camera and permit the use of plate-holders in the same camera, so that a roll-holder and plateholdercan be used interchangeably in the same camera.

Anotherohject ofniyinvention is to provide a roll-holder having no liln'i-support board, so as to better allow the sensitized lilm to lie ilat between the guides, and the sight'aperture usually carried in and through said film-support board I carry in anovel manner in the rear of a pendent walled sight-passage.

Another object of my invention is to provide a roll-holder having only one compartment for holding the spools of'sensitized film and exposing the film to rays of light passed through a lens, in which roll-holder only one sliding door in the casing is necessary, which sliding door is the usual sliding door generally used in the front of all roll-holders and plateholders.

In my invention my roll-holder has an opening at the front of the roll-holder in the lace usually occupied by the film-support board, and thus my roll-holder can be made without any slides, doors, or any opening in the casing for obtaining access to the interior of the rollholder other than the usual i'ront slide, and the roll-holder thus is accessible for the introduction of supply-spool and reel-spool through the front slide of the casing and through the aperture caused by omitting the film-support board, which support-hoard is not a necessary element in roll-holders.

My-roll holder has one compartment for holding the rolls of sensitized film and a walled sight-passage located in the top of the rollholder casing, Which sight-passage leads to one or more sight-apertures in the front of the walled sight-passage, which sight-apertures are near to the rear side of the wrapper of the sensitized lilin, and through which sight-apertures can be observed numbers, letters, or indioia denoting the position of the sensitized film in the roll-holder.

My invention consists of a photographic roll holder suitable for using cartridge-rolls of sensitized film, the novel features of which are pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings similar characters of reference denote similar parts.

Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my roll-holder taken from the rear. Fig. 2 represents a perspective view of the rollholder taken from the front and showing the interior of the roll-holder. Fig. 3 represents a central perpendicular sectional view taken through the center of the supply-spool and the reel-spool. Fig. i represents a central perpendicular crosssectional view through the center of the sight-aperture of the rollholder. 5 represents a sectional plan view of the roll-holder, taken on the line X X of Fig. 6 represents a front view of the roll-holder. Fig. 7 represents a modified form of the roll-holder.

To operate the roll-holder, withdraw the front slide and insert a reel-spool through the front opening and place the top of the reelspool into connection with the reel-winding device, Then press down the lower reel centering and supporting device and the center pivot can be entered into the lower end of the reel-spool and .the reel spool be in place. Next insert a cartridge-spool of sensitized film in the same manner and'pass the end of I the wrapper of the sensitized film around the inner guides for the edge of the film and tighten the wrapper by turning the reel. Next replace the front slide of the roll-holder casing and turn the reel forward until the first number, letter, or indicia on the wrapper of the film comes .opposite to the sightaperture in the roll-holder, and thus prepared the roll-holder is ready to be inserted in a camera and used in the usual manner.

I claim 1 1. In a photographic-roll holder the combination of a casing having a front opening, a slide in said front opening, the casing having a walled sight-passage through the top of the casing, said walled sight-passage leading to a sight-aperture in the front of said walled sight-passage, film-edge guides at the interior top and bottom of the casing, rounded guides for the sensitized film positioned in line with the film edge guides, said rounded guides placed at the sides of the space between the film-edge guides, spool and reel centering devices in the casing, and a reelwinding device adapted to connect with and wind the reel. 7

2. In a photographic-roll holder the combination of a casing having one compartment for holding the rolls of sensitized film and exposing the film to rays of light passed through a lens, said casing having a front opening, a slide in said front opening, said casing constructed with only one outside opening for introducing spools of sensitized film, which opening is closable by the said slide, said cas ing having in its top a walled sight-passage having a front wall, said front wall having a sight-aperture, film-edge guides at the interior top and bottom of the roll-holder casing, said film-edge guides positioned in line between the rounded guides for the film, spool and reel centering devices in thecasing, and a reel-winding device adapted to connect with and wind the reel.

In aphotographic-roll holder the combination of a casing having one compartment for holding the rolls of sensitized film and'exposing the film to rays of light passed through a lens, said casing having a front opening, a slide in the said front opening, said casing having in its top a sight-aperture, film-edge guides at the interior top and bottom of the rollholder casing, said film edge guides positioned in line between rounded guides for the film, said rounded guides positioned on opposite sides of the space between the said film-edge guides, spool and reel centering devices in the casing, and a reel-winding device adapted to connect with and wind the reel.

4. In a photographic-roll holder the combination of a casing having a front opening, a

slide in said front opening,the casing having a walled sight-passage through the top and back of the casing, said walled sight-passage leading to a sight-aperture in the front of said walled sigl1t-passage,-film-edge guides at the interior top and bottom of the casing, rounded guides for the sensitized film positioned in line with thefilm-edge guides, said rounded guides placed at opposite sides of the space between the film-edge guides, spool and reel centering devices in the casing, and a reelwinding device adapted to connect with and wind the reel.

In a photographic-roll holder the combination of a casing having a front opening, a slide in said front opening, the casing having a walled sight-passage through the top and back of the casing, said walled sight-passage leading to a sight-aperture in the front of the said walled sight-passage, film-edge guides at the interior top and bottom of the casing, rounded guides for the sensitized film positioned in line with. the filmsedge guides, said rounded guides placed at opposite sides of the space between the film-edge guides, a pivoting device for the supply-spool, a pivoting and winding device for the reel-spool, a spring carrying spool and reel pivots positioned at the opposite side from the reel-winding device, and the roll-holder casing constructed to open and allow of access to the interior of the roll-holder.

In a photographic-roll holder the combination of a casing having one compartment for holding the rolls of sensitized film and exposing the film torays of lightpassed through a lens, said casing having a front opening, a slide in said front opening, the casing having a walled sight-passage through the top and back of the casing, said'walled sight-passage leading to a sight-aperture in the front of said walled sight-passage, film-edge guides at the interior top and bottom of the casing, rounded guides for the sensitized film positioned in line with the film-edge guides, said rounded guides placed at opposite sides of the space between the film-edge guides, a pivoting device for the supply-spool, a pivoting and winding device for the reel-spool, and a spring carrying spool and reel pivots positioned at the opposite side from the reel-' Witnesses:
