JAMES T. COWLEY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO LAMSON CONSOLIDATED STORE SERVICE COMPANY, OF NEWVARK, NEW JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
PN EU MATlC-DESPATCH-TU BE APPARATUS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 687,202, dated November 26, 1901.
Application filed July 10,1901.
To all whom it Worry concern/.-
Be it known that I, JAMES T. COWLEY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Pneumatic-Despatch- Tube Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in pneuinatic-despatch apparatus in which the carriers are transmitted from one end of the line to the other; and its object is to provide a valve located in the suction-tube for regulating the pressure in the system.
My invention consists of certain novel features hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a construction embodying my invention, Figure 1 is a detail view of the valve' operating mechanism shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the valve for regulating the pressure in the system.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts throughout both views.
G represents a valve located in the suctiontube F for regulating the pressure in the system and consisting of a cylinder G, having a branch G Within this cylinder is a sleeve G having an end closed by a cover G and passing through the center of the cover G is a shaft G having on one end the handle G". This shaft is provided with an enlarged collar G to hold the shaft G5 in place in the cover G The other end G of the shaft G is threaded, and the threaded portion passesthrough the hub G having the arms G, which extend inside of the valve and are secured by the bolts G to the sides of the cylinder G, the bolts passing through and connecting the sleeve G The valve G is opened and closed and the air circulation regulated by turning the handle G thereby raising or lowering the inner cylinder G so that by enlarging or diminishing the passage G more or less pressure is obtained in the system.
Having thus described the nature of my invention and set forth a construction embody- Serial No. 6 7,764. (No model.)
ing the same, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is=
1. In a pneumatic-despatch-tube apparatus, a valve closed at its outer end to the atmosphere and open atits inner end to the tube for regulating the pressure in the despatchtube, a screw-threaded shaft, and a stationary nut with which said screw-threaded shaft is adapted to operate for sliding the valve inwardly and outwardly for closing and opening the same.
2. In a pneumatic-despatch-tube apparatus, a valve closed at its outer end to the at mosphere and open at its inner end to the tube for regulating the pressure in the despatchtube and consisting of a cylinder provided with an internal screw-threaded shaft, and a stationary nut secured to the interior of the valve casing and with which said screwthreaded shaft is adapted to operate to open and close the valve.
3. In a pneumatic-despatch-tube apparatus, a cylindrical valve closed at its outer end to the atmosphere and open at its inner end to the tube for regulating the pressure in the despatchtube, and means for moving said valve outwardly and inwardly to open and close the same.
4. In a pneumatic-despatch-tube apparatus, a valve closed at its outer end to the atmosphere and open at its inner end to the tube for regulating the pressure in the despatchtube and consisting of a cylinder provided with a screw-threaded shaft and a stationary nut having branching arms secured to the interior of the valvecasing and with said nut said screw-threaded shaft is adapted to oper ate to open and close the valve.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 26th day of June, A. D. 1901.
JAMES T. COWLEY.
