THOMAS K. DAVISON, OF ST. ALBANS, WEST VIRGINIA.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 687,129, dated. November 19, 1901.
Application flied May 31, 1901.
To all whom it may concern/:-
Be it known that I, THOMAS K. DAvIsoN, a` citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Albans, in the county of Kanawha and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Clip, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a clip especially useful for holding curtains and other fabrics. It involves a certain novel construction which enables it to be effectively used without in any way damaging the fabric, however delicate it may be.
This specication is a specific description of one form of the invention, while the claims are definitions of the actual scope thereof.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l showsthe invention in use as a curtain-hanger. Fig. 2 is an enlarged side View of the invention.` Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 8 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a section showing the parts in a different position.
The clip comprises two oppositely-situated jaws d, connected together by a body part b, which is preferably integral therewith, and which, according to the structure here shown, is of spring material and tends to spread the jaws, as in Fig. 4. At the inner portions of the jaws, adjacent to the body b, are arranged lugs c, which are one for each jaw and formed, preferably, by striking up from the metal forming the jaws. The lugs c are formed with openings c', through which and through the body b is passed a pin d, having at its outer end a hook CZ and at its inner end a head cl2 and an enlargement d3 directly adjacent to the head. When the pin d is drawn out to engage the enlargement d in the openings c', Fig. 3, the jaws a are forced Serial No. 62,529. (No model.)
together and caused to hold the fabric or other material between them. When the pin 'd is pushed in to disengage the enlargement from the openings, Fig. Il, the spring body portion is allowed to spread the jaws, so that the article held is released. It willpbe observed that the engaging movement of the jaws is caused by drawing together the lugs c, which are attached to the jaws, and to facilitate the operation of the parts the enlargeand a pin movable axially between and. longitudinally with respect to the jaws, said pin extending through the orifices in the lugs and having an enlargement working against the walls of said orifices in substantially the manner described.
2. A clip comprising two oppositely-situate jaws arranged to work toward and from each other for the purpose specified, a lug on each jaw the lugs projecting toward and alongside of each other and having orifices therein, and arod extending through the orifices and movable axially, transversely to the lugs, said rod having an enlargement thereon working with the walls of the orifices in the lugs in substantially the manner described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THOMAS K. DAVISON.
