SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 685,986, dated November 5, 1901.
Application filed July l2, 1901- Serial No. 673936. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN E. HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Center Harbor, county of Belknap, State of New Hampshire, have invented an Improvement in Egg- Beaters, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like letters on the drawings representing like parts.
This invention has for its object the production of a novel egg-beater capable of high speed and which may be produced at low cost.
The drawing shows my novel egg-beater in perspective.
In the production of my improved eggbeater I have devised a new, novel, and etlicient frame whichmay be composed mainly of one piece of met-al.
The frame A of the eggbeater is represented as composed of a single piece of wire or metal. One end of this piece of wire or metal has an eye a, and at a short distance therefrom a suitable hole to receive the upper end of the central shaft h, carrying the inner beaterf. The frame is then bent, as at al, and extended downwardly to the point a2, where the frame is bent to provide suitable enlarged spaces at the lower end of the frame. The frameis further bent at a3, d4, and a5, and from a5 it extends upwardly, preferably through the eye a, the extremity of the frame receiving upon it the handle c. The lower end of the shaft h is stepped in the portion or foot between the ends a3 and d4, said foot being adapted to rest upon a bowl or other vessel in which the eggs or material are to be beaten or stirred. The side arms of the frame are extended through suitable ears of a brace, as d, said brace having a suitable pivot, as d', upon Whichis mounted to turn freely a toothed gear e, having a suitable handle e. The
toothed side of the gear e engages a pinion f,
fast on the upper end of the shaft b, and also a pinion g, secured to the upper end of the branch frame g', bent, as at g2, to form abeater to embrace the beater f.
A beater such as shown may be readily and cheaply constructed and it is very strong and durable.
The edges ofA the vbeater-blades may be varied in shape from that shown, as thereby better results are sometimes obtained, and material, such as eggs, may be more rapidly beaten.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. An egg-beater comprising a frame composed of a single piece of metal one end of which receives directly upon it the handle, a portion of the frame at one side of said han# dle sustaining a shaft provided with a beater, a second beater surrounding the beater on said shaft, and suitable gearing to rotate said beaters.
2. An egg-beater comprising a frame composed of a single piece of metal having at one end an eye, the opposite end of the frame being inserted through said eye and provided with a handle, a brace engaging said frame near 'its upper end, a toothed gear pivoted on said brace, a shaft h mounted in said frame at one side said handle and provided with a gear and with a beater, and an outer beater surround-ing the inner beater, and a gear connected with said outer beater, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN E. IIILL.
