UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERNST FEIX AND ALFRED GOETHEL, OF MILWAUKEE, \VISCON SIN.
ARTIFICIAL LIGHT AND HEAT CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters iatent No. 685,205, dated October 22, 1901.
Application filed March 6, 1901.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ERNST FEIX and AL FRED GOETHEL, citizens of the United States, and residents of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial Light and Heat Cabinets 5 and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Our invention has for its object to provide a simple and efiective apparatus for heating cabinets for medical treatment, and more especially for that class where artificial light is employed in combination with heat; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts to be fully set forth hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view on line 1 1 of Fig. 2, showing our heating device applied to a cabinet in combination with electric lights; and Fig. 2 is a section on line'2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A A are the sides, and B the bottom, of a cabinet with a rear wall 0, said cabinet being provided withthe usual doors, as indicated at D, Fig. 2, and is also provided with a series of electric lamps E and lined with reflectingmirrors F'at various angles, which serve to intensify the light, the whole being practically air-tight when the patient is in position upon the seat G, the head remaining outside and projecting through an opening H in the top of the cabinet, which is also provided with a vent I, that may be adjusted so as to regulate the circulation of air in the cabinet. The bottom B of said cabinet has a central round opening J, under which is placed a burner J of any ordinary construction, (gas or vapor,) inclosed in a metal duct K, open at one end, through which the cold air is conducted to the burner and when heated passes up through the opening J, abutting hood L, which deflects the air into chamberM and out through a series of holes a a into Serial No, 50,069. (No model.)
a metallic false bottom N of a little less area than the cabinet-bottom, which said false bottom is also provided with a number of openings b b, through which the 'heat escapes to the cabinet. Said metal receptacle N has socured to its upper flat surface a non-conducting sheet of asbestos 0', so as'to protect the feet of the patient from the intense heat which would otherwise radiate from the receptacle N.
It is obvious that with the several obstruc tions and receptacles for the heat to pass through before it enters the cabinet (which it finally does near the outer edge of the same) it will be so distributed that the discomfort of a concentrated heat, which is a great o'bjection to the method of heating cabinets of ordinary use, is entirely overcome.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, ahd desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an artificial light and heat cabinet, a heater for the same located under the bottom thereof, an airduct incasing said burner open at one end, an opening in the bottom of said cabinet over said heater, a hood suspended above said opening, a rectangular chamber incasing the same having a series of orifices disposed at its sides, and a false bottom inclosing the same with closed sides and ends of less area than the bottom of the cabinet, said sides and bottom being provided with openings whereby hot air is discharged near the walls of the cabinet, and a covering of non-conducting material for the aforesaid false bottom, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
ERNST FEIX. ALFRED GOETI-IEL.
