Description

'tion of the same.
I I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED M. ACKLIN, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
CONVEYER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 683,372, dated September 24, 1901.
Application filed February 5, 1901. Serial No. 46,096. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED M. AoKLIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Conveyors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to that class of conveyers employing pans or molds.
The invention is particularly adapted for conveying hot slag, metals, &c., from the furnace to a point for loading.
The object in view is to provide a conveyer for this class of service which will be simple in construction, durable, and practical in its operation.
In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated a conveyer which is constructed in accordance with my invention, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of the conveyer. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same having portions removed to fully show the construction. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of one of the pans or molds. Fig. 4 is a front eleva- Fig. 5 is a side view of a portion of the conveyer constructed for horizontal travel.
At the point of delivery is suitably mounted a drive-shaft 1, carrying a pair of hexagonal Wheels 2,and at the point of loading is mounted another shaft 3, having wheels 4 thereon. A belt composed of a plurality of parallel bars or shafts 5, coupled one to the other by links 6, is mounted upon said wheels, and to prevent lateral movement of said bars the collars 7 are applied thereto. Each end of said bars or shafts is provided with a wheel 8 to engage with and travel upon the inclined track-rails 9. Each of the conveyer pans or An opening 13 is formed down through each of the panbosses to register with the openings 14 in the links, and into each of these is fitted a bolt 15 to secure the pans rigidly in position. Each of said pans is'preferably made of such length as to overlap the one in its rear and of such height from their connecting-points as to be approximately level when the belt is intended to travel upon an incline, as shown at Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4. In cases where the belt is to travel horizontally the pan-bosses will be proportionally shorter, as shown at Fig. 5. The conveyor travels in this instance in the direction indicated by the arrows at Fig. 1, the pans or molds receiving the material from an elevation at the right and discharging the same as it passes over the wheels at the left.
It will be readily seen that the construction of and means of securing the pans to the parallel bars and connecting-links are simple and positive, as well as permitting each or any number of the pans to be readily and easily removed for repairs, &c., without having to disconnect the belt.
Having thus fully shown and described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. In a conveyer, the combination with the parallel bars and the connecting-links thereof, of the pans or molds rigidly secured at one end to said links and having hooked lugs at their opposite end to engage said bars.
2. In a conveyer, the combination with the parallel bars and the connecting-links thereof, of the pans or molds rigidly secured at one end upon said links and having hooked lugs at their opposite ends to engage said bars, said pans or molds having bosses or extensions to engage upon said links at their connecting-points.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto atfixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED M. AOKLIN.
