SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 681,104, dated August 20, 1901.

The main feature in the presentinvention consistsinthe substitution of a conical cork stopper for the 'ordinary porcelain plug and rubber gasket. The stopper is secured on a wire d, which is bent, as shown, in such a way that two bars run parallel across the stopper, whereupon the wire is bent in the shape of eyes t', and then each end is run back parallel to the Vaforesaid bars a slight distance underthe same. The ends are preferably tapered and pointed, so that they can be stuck Aeasily into the cork of a stopper. A thin metal plate p can be secured under the bars d to prevent `their embedding in the cork either by soldering or by bending part of the metal around the bars, as shown. The eyes 71 are-linked into the eyes s of another metal wire strap h,bent into two parallel bars,
which are run through the eyes uof the Serial No. 251893. (No model.)

It is evident that the eyes i can be turned in the eyes s, and thus the stopper o, supported by the wire CZ, can be thrown back. It will also be understood that the rear strap b can be lowered in the eyes u until the eyes s come in contact with the latter. The forwardly-projecting end of the strap d is engaged by a catch in the form of a toggle-lever g in the ordinary well-known manner, the same being pivotally connected to the front part fm in the main supporting-wire n.
Fig. 5 shows the device in open position. The strap b is lowered, which offers the advantage that the cork stopper o is lower than the opening of the bottle, thus making the opening fully free and bringing the parts in a position in which a cork can be easily exchanged when necessary.
I claim as my invention-v Y l. A bottle-closing device provided with a wire bent to form two parallel bars, adapted to lie across the top of astopper and connected together at one end, eyes at the opposite endsof said bars whereby they may be pivotally secured to the bottle, and two bars extending backward from and in continuation of the wire of the eyes, below and parallel with the -outer parallel bars and pointed, whereby the stopper may be impaled thereon, substantially as described.

A bottle-closing device provided with a wire bent to form two parallel bars, adapted to lie across the top of a stopper and connected together at one end, eyes at the opposite ends of said bars whereby they may be pivotally secured to the bottle, and two bars eX- tending backward from and in continuation of the wire of the eyes, below and parallel with the outer parallel bars and pointed whereby the stopper may be im paled thereon, in combination with a supporting-strap secured about the bottle and provided with eyes, and a rear strap linked in the eyes of the parallel bars and slidably secured in theeyes of the securing-strap,substantially as described.
3. A bottle-closing device provided with a wire bent to form two parallel bars, adapted to lie across the top of a stopper and connect- IOO ed together at one end, eyes at the opposite o tally secured to the bottle, and two bars eX- tending backward from and inv continuation of the Wire of the eyes, below and parallel with the outer parallel bars and pointed whereby the stopper may be impaled thereon, in combination with a supporting-strap secured about the bottle and provided with eyes, a rear strap linked in the eyes of the parallel bars and slidably secured in the eyes of the 1o securing-strap, and a thin metal plate secured to the first-mentioned parallel bars and adapted to rest on top. of the stopper, substantially as described. f
