Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. CAMPBELL, OH MCKEESPORT, PENNSYLVANIA.
CURTAlN-POLE.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 671.755, dated. April 9, 1901.
Applioation filed November 16, 1900. Sefial N0. 36697. (N0 model.)
T0 all whom it may eoncern:
Be in knovvn that I, CHARLES H. CAMPBELL, a eihizen 01" the Uniued Staates 0f Ameriea, residing ab MOKeesport, in the county of Allegheny and Staate of Pennsylvania, have invented eertain new and useful Improvements in Ourtain-Poles, of whieh 1ahe following is a speeifieabion, referenee being had berein t0 the aecompanyin-g drawings.
This invenoion relates 110 eertain new and. useful improvements in eurtain-poles, and has for i1as objee1; 130 construct a eur1:ain-p0le wherein the euroain-supporting means will be entirely hidden from view and whereby a eurtain may be adj us1sed vertically wilah ease.
Briefly deseribed, 1she invention eomprises the pole proper, whieh is eons1sructed of two equal seetions, each 0f Whieh is grooved on one faee throughout its length, the groove having one 0f its walls a1: righ1: angles 130 the fi'at face of the sec1sion and the other wall au an incline 110 said fla1; faee. When the 'uwo sections of 1she pole are fitted together, 13116 grooves register and f0rm a subs1zantially triangular groove, ohe one Wall of which is a'o right angles 110 Ehe line of division between 1zhe sec1aions and the other two walls 0f whieh groove are a1; an ineline 10 said line 0f division. This groove extends 11he length of the pole and is adapted 130 receive a securing-strip, whieh in eross-seetion is also substantially triangular. This seeuring-strip is adapted t0 have 1:he eurtain wrapped upon 1ahe same, and each sec1aion 01: the pole is 0ut away along the lower edge 110 form a spaee 130 receive the eurtain. taogether by suibable sleeves on the ends thereof. All this construction will be hereinafter more speeifically deseribed and 13h'en partieularly poinned ou1; in the claim, and in describing the inven1aion in detail referenee is had 170 nh'e aecompanying drawings, forming a par1s 0f this specifieaion, and wherein 1ike numerals of referenee indicate corresponding parbs throughout ehe several views, in whieh Figure 1 is a perspeeive view of the two seetions 0f the pole. Fig. 2 is a side elevanion of a part of a pole, showing a portion of a eurtain therein. Fig. 3 is a side elevation 0f a part of one of the seetions, showing the sleeve on the end thereof, said sleeve being in longitudinal seeoion.
Fig. 4 is a trans- The 11w0 seetions of the pole are held Verse vertiea] sec1sional view taken 0n 11he line 4 4 0f Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is an end view of the pole wi1ah the sleeves and seeuring-st-rip removed. Fig. 6 is a detail perspeetive view 0f lahe seeuring-strip partly broken away.
T0 eonstruet a curtain-pole in aeeordance with my invention, I provide a eylindrical pole, dividing 11he same longitudinally into 1;wo equal seetions l. 011 the Hat; faee of eaeh seetion whi0h is 1:hus formed by dividing tshe eylindrieal pole I provide a groove the wall 2 of whieh is a1; an ineline 130 a plane through 1;he axis 0f 1ahe pole and the wall 3 of whieh is parallel Wlfih tzhe Same plane. When 1;he two seetions of the pole are thus grooved and the grooved faces of Ehe pole plaeed together, a substantially briangular groove 4 is formed, extending from end 10 end of the pole. The 11w0 inclined Walls 0f said briangular groove are 0f greater width than bhe botom. Eaeh 0f the seeoions is 01111 away along one edge 01: the grooved faee, as ab 5, forming a groove for the reeeption of the eurfiain 6. Said groove, however, does 11011 extend the enire length 0f 11l1e pole. F017 seeuring Ehe curain in position within 1she pole I providea secnring-bar 7, whieh in cross-see1aion is substantially triangular in shape, eonforming, therefore, t0 the shape of the groove 4, though be ing 0f less size than 1shis groove in order to provide sufeienb spaee for the curtain 6. The 11w0 seetions 0f Ehe pole are held toge1aher by sleeves 8, which embra0e ohe pole ab the ends and may be provided with ornan1entml knobs 9, as shown. The securing-bar 7 may be 0f a length equal 130 1:he length 0f the reeess 01 S101] 5 for 1:he cur13ain and not extended 1ahe full lengbh of the pole.
T0 plaee a eurtain in position in r.he pole, the upper part 0f 1she curtain is laid within the groove in one seeoion of ohe pole, and 1she seeuring strip or bar 7 is oben plaeed on top 0f the curtain and the part 01 ehe la1atae1 which extends upon the strip folded down over the strip, as shown in Fig. 4 0f 1zhe drawings. The otaher sec1sion of the pole is placed in position, the sleeves plaeed on the ends of the pole, and 11he same is oben in shape 130 be hung upon its supporting-braekets.
I'm will be no1aed 13hat the curlaain may be readily adjusted as 110 height by ei-ther overlapping a greater er 1ess pontion of the same upon the secuiing-strip in the manner as Will be readily apparent by referring 150 Fig. 4.
Ib will be noted that various changes may be made in the details 0f eonstruetion Without departing from ehe general spirit 0f my invenbion.
Havin g thus fu1ly described nny invention, whau I ciaim as new and desire 110 secure by Letters Patent, is
An improved eurtain-pole, comprising two half-secbions adapted t0 be secured together, and ha ving their adjoining flat faces provided wih a longitudinal groove, tshe one wa11 0f whieh groove is ab right angles 110 the flalb faces of the sections and the dbher wall of which is ahan incline thereto, the said grooves when the two seetions am secured togebher CHARLES H. CAMPBELL.
