LEGGING.
SPECFIGATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 669,337, dated March 5, 19101.. Application-Med December 17, 1900. Serial No. 40,174. (No model.)
T0 a/ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. BRAUN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Leggings, of which the following is a specification.
It is desirable to produce a legging which shall be strong and snugly fitting and at the same time can be quickly put on or removed. I make my legging A of canvas or leather or other suitable material shaped so as to conform to the curve of the leg from the knee to the foot and provide it with a strap on the lower portion to extend beneath the foot in order to keep the legging from slipping up.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the legging when closed as it appears on the leg, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the legging partly open.
Attached to the inside of the legging on the front portion of the body adjacent to the open side is a strip of material extending the full length of the body and forming an inner iiap B, over which extends the body of the legging, at the front edge forming, in effect, an outer iiap C, between which when the legging is closed is located the rear edge D of the body,
.so that the edges along the side form an inner edge or flap B, an outer edge or flap C, rand an intermediate edge or ap D, making a close tight seam on the side of the legging which opens. The edge or Hap D is provided with a series of lacing-holes a. The inner flap B is provided with a series of hooks b, and the outer Hap C is provided with a series of hooks c, the hooks b and c being so arranged as to alternate with each other, as will be seen in the drawings. The flap B is provided with a lacing-hole d at the bottom, and the flap C is provided with lacing-holes e at the top and bottom. A lacing-cord E is inserted at the hole d and then runs outwardly through the first of the holes a, outwardly through the lower hole e, and then back and forth through the holes a in the ap D. It will be seen that this arrangement furnishes a series of inner loopsf and a series of outer loops g. The inner loops are adapted to engage with the hooks b and the outer loops to engage with the hooks c when the flap D has been placed in position between the aps B and C. Thus the one lacing-cord is made through its alternate loops to engage the alternate hooks b on the inner flap and the hooks c on the outer edge, thus securely fastening the intermediate edge or 'flap on both its inside and outside. In this way both sets of loopsthe inner and the outerare utilized in forming the seam or joint of the legging. It will easily be seen that bythis arrangement of lacing the legging can be very quickly adjusted to the leg, and a single pull of the lacing-cord will sufce to tighten the legging and hold it in place. This provides a legging which is very simple in construction and at the same time is strong and neat.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a legging, a forward portion provided with two aps, each iiap having a series of hooks with the hooks alternating, a rear ap having a series of lacing-holes, and a lacingcord running in and out of the series of lacing-holes forming inner and outer loops adapted, when the aps are brought together, to have the inner loops engage with the hooks ofthe inner iiap and the outer loops engage with the hooks of the outer ap, substantially as described.
JOHN M. BRAUN.
