ISADORE LIBERMAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
CIGAR-ROLLING TABLE AND WRAPPER-CUTTER.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 668,921, dated February 26, 1901. Application filed September 22, 1900. Serial No. 30,745. W0 em To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, IsADoRE LIBERMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Cigar-Rolling Table and Wrapper- Outter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a cigar-rollin g table and wrapper-cutter; and the object of my device is to afford improved means for cutting the wrapper of the cigar and maintaining it flat upon the table while the cigar is being formed and rolled.
My invention comprises improved means for raising the knife above the surface of the surrounding table during the act of cutting the wrapper and then lowering the same flush with the table to afiord a smooth surface for rolling and shaping the cigar. I also provide improved means for spring-controlling the roller to secure even pressure of the wrapper upon the knife at all points of its contact.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my device in part section, showing the cutting-knife raised above the surface of the surrounding table. Fig. 2 is a sectional detail of the cutting-knife and suction-box. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a top view of my device. Fig. 5 is a vertical section on lines 5 5 of Fig. 1.
Upon the exhaust-box 1, which is connected by flexible tube 2 with means for exhausting air,-I mount the continuous knife 4, which is adapted to project through the surface of the forming and wrapping table 5, which is apertu red to fit closely about said knife. Inclosed within the edges of the knife is the perforated member 6, which lies flush with the upper edges of said knife and is supported on the resilient supports 7, so that said member 6 may be depressed when the roller 8 passes over the leaf resting thereon to permit the knife-edges to cut the leaf. The exhaust-box 1 is vertically movable in the casing 9 and adapted to be raised and lowered by the movement of the cam 10, which is operated by the pedal 11that is, it is raised to cause the knife to project slightly above the table 5 when a leaf is to be cut and is lowered to bring the knife exactly flush with the table when the cigar is to be rolled and wrapped thereon. The movement of this exhaust-box may be facilitated by inserting ball-bearings between it and the grooves of the framework 9 in which it works or by the use of any other suitable antifriction device.
The amount of movement of the exhaustbox 1 andthe knife 4 may be regulated by the adjustment of the crank 12 with the earns 10, said adjustment being maintained by screws 13.
The roller 8, carried by the arm 14, is provided with spiral springs 15, which bear upon the upper sides of its two axle-bearings, so as to maintain a uniform pressure of the roller throughout its length to secure an efiicient cutting of the wrapper at all points of the knife-edge.
The conformation of the knife and also the aperture of the table, which exactly fits the same, is similar at its two extremities, so that when the table is turned over the aperture will be reversed to fit a left-hand knife.
What I claim is 1. In a cigar-machine the combination of a forming and wrapping table, an endless knife adapted to project through said table and also to lie flush therewith and vertically-movable air-exhaust and knife-supporting means, substantially as described.
2. In a cigar-machine the combination of a forming and wrapping table, an endless knife adapted to project through said table and also to lie flush therewith means for vertically moving the knife and air-exhaust means connected therewith, substantially as described.
3. In a cigar-machine the combination of a forming and wrapping table, an endless knife adapted to project through said table and also to lie flush therewith and a verticallymovable exhaust-box supporting said knife, substantially as described.
4. In a cigar-machine the combination of a forming and wrapping table, an endless knife adapted to project through said table and also to lie flush therewith, a vertically-movable exhaust-box supporting said knife, and a pedal-operated cam for raising and lowering said box, substantially as described.
5. In a cigar-machine the combination of a forming and wrapping table, an endless knife adapted to project through said table and also to be flush therewith, a vertically-movable exhaust-box supporting said knife, and a perforated plate fitting Within the knife, its upper surface flush with the upper edge of the knife and resting upon resilient supports to permit of a slight depression under pressure, substantially as described.
6. In a cigar-machine the combination of a forming and wrapping table, an endless knife adapted to project through said table and also to lie flush therewith, a vertically-movable exhaust-box supporting said knife, a pedal-operated cam for raising and lowering said box and adjustable means for securing the cam at the required angle with its actuating-lever, substantially as described.
7. In a cigar-machine the combination of a forming and Wrapping table, an endless knife ISAD ORE LI BERMAN.
