ATENT GFFICE.
AUGUST THIEDE, OF SANDAU, GERMANY..
DEVICE FOR PREVENTING lNCRUSTATlON lN WATER-GAGES 0F STEAM-BOILERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 665,554, dated January 8,
A fi ti fil d October 5, 1900- Serial No. 32,173. (No model.)
To aZZ whont it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST THIEDE, of Sand-an, Prussia, Germany, have invented a new and useful Device for Preventing Incrustation in Water-Gages of Steam-Boilers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof.
My invention consists of a new and useful construction for preventing incrustation in horizontal channels of the water-gage leading to the steam-boiler and is constructed by securing to the inner wall of the boiler a plate which surrounds the ends of the pipes horizontal of the water-gage and on which plate a scraper is adapted to be reciprocated so as to clean or scrape away the various scales which from time to time are incrusted upon the said openings.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a vertical sectional elevation of the device secured to the inner wall of the boiler. I Fig. 2 is a front view, the boiler being shown in section. Fig. 3 shows a back view of the scraper; and Fig. 4 a section on the line as m, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, a is the plate secured to the inner wall of the boiler, said plate being provided with openings b b to correspond with the openings of the pipes leading to the gage. This plate is provided with suitable guides on its longer edges and receives therein the scraper (1, adapted to be reciprocated within said guides and on said plate, so as to clean or scrape away the scales. The scraper aforesaid is provided with openings e e, allowing the free passage of the water in or out of said pipes. Connected in any suitable manner to the scraper is a rod g, the outer end of which, passing through the wall of the steam-boiler and through a suitable stuffing-box, as shown, provides means for moving the said scraper to and fro-that is, reciprocating it so as to scrape off all inerustation gathering on the said openings.
Having now described my invention, I claim 1. A new and useful device for preventing incrustration in water-gages of steam-boilers consisting of a plate secured to the inner wall of the boiler and surrounding with its ends the openings of the water-pipes, a scraper on said plate, openings in said scraper allowing the free passage of the water in or out of said pipes and means for reciprocating the scraper so as to scrape away the scales being incrusted upon the said openings.
2. In a new and useful device for preventing incrustation in water-gages of steam-boilers the combination of a plate secured to the inner wall of the boiler and provided with openings to correspond with the openings of the water-pipes, guides on said plate, a scraper received within said guides and upon said plate and having openings, allowing the free passage of the water in or out of said gage, a rod in connection with said scraper and a stuffing-box in the wall of the boiler tightening the other end of said rod passing through the wall of the steam-boiler.
. AUGUST THIEDE.
