OTTO EGGERT, OF KONIGSBERG, GERMANY.
PIPE CLAIVIPING AND SUPPORTING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 656,783, dated August 28, 1900. Application filed December 23,1899. Serial No. 741,456- (No model.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO EGGERT, engineer, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at No. 2 Schutzenstrasse, Konigsberg, in the Province of EastPrussia, Germany, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in Pipe Clamping and Supporting Devices, of which the following is aspecification.
The present invention relates to an improved pipe clamping and supporting device, the purpose of the invention being to so construct this class of devices that the pipe can be clamped and released with great facility.
With this end in view my invention consists in the novel combination, adaption, and arrangement of parts, all as more fully described hereinafter and the essential elements of which are recited in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an inverted plan view of such a device. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of same. Fig. 3 illustrates a section on line A B of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 shows in plan view the individual members of the device.
The device consists, essentially, of the shaft a, which is inserted and secured in the brickwork at any desired place in the well-known manner. The center portion 1) and the ring 0 are made in two parts, the meeting surfaces of one half being beveled off, while the meetin g surfaces of the other half are correspondin gl y recessed to in sure a tight fittin g together of the two parts. The two parts of the center portion 1) are each provided with a segmentshaped opening (Z c in such a manner that the base-lines of the two segments face each other. From the center of the base-line a channel f leads outward, so as to coincide with the channel fof the other part and establish communication. The two parts of b and c are made to approach or separate by means of a key It, having lateral flanges approaching each other toward the rear, the configuration of which corresponds to the two openings (1 and e, a web a, connecting the two segments of the key, serving for passing through the channels f. Any suitable mate rial may be employed for manufacturing the individual parts of the device and the key,
butI have found wrought-iron the best-adapted material.
The use of the device is as follows: After the shaft a has been inserted and secured in the brickwork or wall at the required place and after having separated the two halves of the ring a by withdrawing the key It the pipe is brought into position so as to be partly surrounded by the fiXed part of the ring. Then the loose part is put over the unoccupied side of the pipe and the key h is forced into the two segment-shaped openings 01 and e and the channels f f, whereby the two parts are firmly secured together.
It is preferable to provide an opening kin connection with the key to facilitate the removal from the device by the use of a suitable implement.
That I claim as new, and desire to secure .by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination in a pipe clamping and supporting device of a shaft to be inserted in the wall at the required place, a center p0rtion and a ring, said center portion and ring made in two parts, the two parts of the center portion provided with segment-shaped 0penings communicating with each other by a channel, and a key having lateral flanges approaching each other toward the rear end, said key adapted to close the ring by the insertion in the openings in the two parts of the center portion ,substantially as described and shown.
2. In combination with a pipe clamping and supporting device having a shaft to be inserted in the wall at the required place, a center portion and a ring made in two parts, the two parts of the center portion provided with segment -shaped openings communicating with each other by a channel; a key provided with an aperture 70 and with lateral flanges approaching each other toward the rear end, said flanges adapted to press against the two base-surfaces of the segment-shaped openings in the two parts of the center portion to close the ring, substantially as described and shown.
3. The combination in apipe clamping and supporting device of a shaft to be inserted in the wall at the required place, a center porby the insertion in the openings in the two parts of the center portion, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hcreu nto set 1 5 my hand in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
OTTO EGGERT.
