UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSE MAXIMILIANO DAMM, OF DURANGO, MEXICO.
ORE MIXER AND SAMPLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No; 655,478, dated August '7, 1900.
Application filed February 8, 1900- Sofia-1N0. 4,507. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, Jose MAXIMILIANO DAMM, a citizen of Mexico, residing at Durango, in the State of Durango, Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ore Mixers and Samplers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel construction in a device for mixing and taking samples from ore, the object being to provide a simple and efficient device of this character; and it consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section of my device on the line 1 1 of Fig. 2. Fig.2 is a horizontal section of same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. v
My device is designed to be mounted in the upper part of a building on suitable scaffolding at a suitable height, such scaffolding or support therefor forming no part of my invention and being alterable to suit the structural characteristics of the buildingin which it is to be mounted.
My invention comprises a hopper A, snitably mounted upon beams B, forming a part of the scaffolding. A rotating member 0, comprising a central cylindrical receptacle and a plurality of radial spouts D, is mounted below said hopper A, the spout of the latter projecting into said central receptacle. Said rotating member 0 is mounted upon the upper end of a vertical shaft E, journaled in a bearing F, carried by cross-pieces G, extending between depending beams H, forming part of the scafiolding. The said shaft E carries a bevel-gear I, intermeshing with a bevel-pinion J on a horizontal shaft K, journaled in bearings L and M, the former of which is carried by said cross-pieces G and the latter by a depending frame N, secured to said beams B. Said shaft carries a pulley O, by means of which it is geared to a source of power. The said rotating member 0 revolves within a circular frame or drum P of larger diameter than the circle described by the spouts D, which is hung from said beams 13 by means of straps Q.
A track for cars carrying ore or any other suitable conveyer may lead to said hopper A, the ore fed to same passing down into the central receptacle of said rotating member 0, whence it follows the spouts D, owing to the centrifugal force, and is thrown against said frame or drum P, dropping thence upon a heap R on the ground. By this means the ores of different grades become thoroughly mixed, so that all parts of the heap thus formed are of a uniform grade and value.
In order to obtain samples of the ore by means of which to gain a fair estimate of the days yield, I provide a trough S, extending radially outwardly from said drum P below said rotating member 0 from a point within the circle described thereby and at a downward incline, said troughreceiving a given percentage of the ore distributed by said rotating member and delivering same to a sample-box l on the ground or floor adjacent the main heap of ore. Such samples must obviously be of the same grade as the main heap, so that an assay thereof will enable the value of the entire heap to be closely estimated.
I claim as my invention- In a device of the kind specified, the combination with a hopper, of a horizontally-rotating member below the same, comprising a central receptacle into which the delivery end of said hopper projects, and a plurality of radial spouts adapted to withdraw the ore from said receptacle and distribute same by centrifugal force, and a member surrounding said rotating member and of greater diameter than the sweep of the latter against which the ore is adapted to impinge and drop, whereby a heap of uniform grade is adapted to be formed, and an inclined radial trough mounted below said rotating member and extending outwardly from a point Within the sweep thereof and intersecting the circle of falling ore, said trough being adapted to receive a small portion of the ore and deliver same at a point beyond the edge of the main heap.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J OSFJ MAXIMILIANO DAMM.
