Description

Patented July 17, I900.
G. W. GUNDERMAN. WASHSTAND.
(Application filed Aug. 5, 1899.)
(No Model.)
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI GEORGE W. CONDERMAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
WASHSTAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 653,986, dated July 17, 1900.
Application filed August 5, 1899.
T0 to whom, it uny concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. CONDER- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in W'ashstands, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a washstand hayin g a support for a-basin, consisting of an annulus or open frame, a tongue projecting laterally therefrom, a bracket on which said annulus is seated by said tongue, and screws or bolts for adjusting the basin and firmly tightening it against the slab above the same, the construction presented avoiding the expensive, inconvenient, and troublesome means heretofore employed in similar devices and admitting also of resting the slab flat and true on the several contiguous parts.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a portion of a washstand embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a partial side elevation and a partial vertical section thereof, including the upper slab employed. Fig. 3 represents a plan view of a detached portion on a reduced scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A designates an annulus or ring in which a washbasin may be seated, and B designates tongues projecting radially therefrom as sections of a flange for said ring, said ring and tongues constituting the carrier of the basin.
0 designates brackets which are adapted to be secured to a wall or other place of support and have on their upper limbs or faces the depressions or recesses D, forming seats to receive said tongues, said recesses being of considerably-greater length than that of said tongues, so that the latter may slide therein in the direction from end to end of said limbs for adjusting the basin in said direction.
In the annulus A are threaded openings E to receive the screws or bolts F, whose ends point upwardly and are adapted to bear against the flange G of the washbasin.
Above the basin is the slab H, of marble Serial No. 726,248. (No model.)
be seated therein below the outer ends of said tongues, whereby the tops of the basin, the upper limbs of the tongues, and the brackets are flush or approximately so, and the slab H when applied may rest flat and true on said Darts.
J designates pins which rise from the brack ets C and enter openings in the under side of the slab H for preventing shifting of the latter.
The operation is as follows: When the brackets are located, the annulus is set thereon, the tongues being adjusted in the recesses D, according to requirements. The slab is placed in position and sealed and the fixtures are secured, as usual, whereby the slab is con trolled. The bolts F are now properly operated, whereby the flange of the basin is firmly pressed against the slab, thus forming a tight joint between said parts and seating the basin true.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- I 1. In a washstand, a basin with a circumferential flange, a ring within which said basin is received and on which said flange is rested, tongues projecting laterally from said ring, and brackets with longitudinally-extending recesses on the upper limbs thereof, said tongues being seated in said recesses and adapted to slide therein for purposes of adjustment in the direction to and from the ends of said bracket.
2. In a washstand, a basin-carrying ring having a tongue projecting laterally therefrom, a bracket with a longitudinally-extend ing recess in the upper limb thereof, said tongue being freely seated in said recess and adapted to slide therein for purposes of adj ustment in the direction to and from the ends of said bracket, and a screw on said ring adapt ed to bear against the flange of the basin.
3. In a washstand, a basin-carrying ring having a tongue projecting laterally thereed to bear against the flange of the basin, said 1 from, a bracket with a longitudinally-extendtongue having an upwardly-extending elbow ing recess in the upper limb thereof, said thereon.
tongue being freely seated in said recess and GEORGE W. CONDERMAN. 5 adapted to slide therein for purposes of ad- Witnesses:
justment in the direction to and from the ends JOHN A. WIEDERSHEIM,
of said bracket, and a screw on said ring adapt- WM. CANER WIEDERSHEIM.
