TRADING-TICKET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 653,805, dated July 1'?, 1900. pplication tiled September 30,1899. Serial No. 732,235. @To model-l` To all whom, t may concern:
Beit known that I, EARLE GoLDwIRE HAR- RELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jennings, in the county of Hamilton and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Trading-Ticket, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to trading-tickets; and the object of the same is to provide adevice of this character having one portion arranged to indicate the parties in account with each other, surrounded by a margin containing front spaces which designate fractional or large sums of money, and to which is attached a promissory note and an order on Wages of an employee in whose favor the ticket may be made out, and thereby insuring protection to a dealer in merchandise or a storekeeper for goods delivered to the' amount of the cash value of the ticket by affording means for obtaining the indicated money value of the ticket from an employer on account of wages that may be due the holder of the ticket.
The invention consists of the construction and arrangement of parts which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the obverse side of the improved tradingticket. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the reverse side of the ticket in inverted position to present the inscriptions in an easily-readable manner.
Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the views.
The ticket comprises two members 1 and 2, which are separable on an intermediate longitudinal line 3. The two members in united condition combine the trading-ticket proper and a guarantee as to the payment of the face value of the said trading-ticket. The tradingticket proper which is contained on the meinher 1 embodies a margin 4, which is divided into a series of punching-spaces 5, having emblems or numerals therein designating fractional or Whole sums of money. Vithin the confines of the said margin the obverse side of the ticket is divided by a transverse line G into a column 7 at the left and an identityspace 8 to the right. The identity-space 8 contains a date-line 9, matter indicating in what the ticket is payable, to whom, the name of `margin 4 by dimes and half-dimes.
the person holding the account, which may be a storekeeper, dealer in merchandise, or other person, a line 10 for a counter-signature or indorser, and also matter indicating that it is not transferable. In the head of the column 7a space 11 is divided off by a continuation to the left of the date-line 9, and therein is matter indicating that the ticket is good for all amount unpunched. Below this space 11 is a space 12 to receive the number of the ticket, and next below is a space 13 to receive an imprint or indication by numerals of the face value of the ticket. Below the space 13 is a larger space 14, in which is contained matter indicating in whatmanner and when the ticket is valid and in the present instance designating that it Will'be valid only when countersigned by some responsible person-*am for instance, a reputable employer. v
In the use of this trading-ticket proper the amount of purchase by the party in whose favorthe ticket is drawn will be indicated by punching out the numerals or symbols in the spaces 5, and, as shown, the ticket is represented as having a face value of one dollar, and the fractions thereof are indicated in the On the reverse side of this trading-ticket, as carried by the member 1, is a memorandum 15, as shown by Fig. 2, whereon to designate the articles purchased and the amounts paid for each and date of purchase, and at the bottom of said memorandum is a notice-space 15,having matter therein directing that the ticket always be brought by the holder in order to make a purchase therewith and also that nothing is charged.
The guarantee for the payment of the face value of the trading-ticket proper which is carried by the member 2 comprises a promissory note 17 on the obverse side of said member and having in addition an upper lefthand-corner space 18 to receive the amount in figures for which the note is drawn andthe numberof the ticket to which the note pertains. At the left-hand end a transverse marginal space 19 is divided off to receive the name of the party to whom the ticket was issued. On the reverse side of the member 2 a check on wages or salary, as at 20, Fig. 2, is drawn and adapted to be partially printed and filled out to suit the conditions in View of Which the ticket is issued. This check on Wages or salary is in the form of an order adapted to be signed by the party in Whose favor the trading-ticket is drawn and directing his employer to pay the amount of the promissory note on the obverse side or the total or face value of the trading-ticket to the dealer or storekeeper who issues the ticket.
It Will be observed that the parts are so arranged that the trading-ticket proper and the memorandum remain together and come into the possession of the employee or other party in whose favor the ticket is made out.
The device will be especially useful in large factories, mines, or other establishments employing a large number of operatives to effectively carry on the credit system with dealers in merchandise, storekeepers, or others in order to obtain for the employees the necessities of life and other articles and will reduce the labor and annoyance arising from petty accounts and the large number of books usually required to keep a record of the same. Furthermore, a great convenience is pro vided for an employee during periods of time between pay-days and also with protection to the dealer in merchandise, storekeeper, or other person accepting the ticket in lieu of cash money.
It is not always necessary to use the order on Wages on the back of the member 2, containing the promissory note, or to fill the same out, and the use of this portion of the device will depend upon the reliability of the employee who has the ticket issued in his favor or upon the method of doing business of the dealer in merchandise or storekeeper. It will be understood that the face value of the ticket proper may be made to represent various amounts; but the total amount will al- Ways be indicated on the face thereof. The fraction of divisions of money indicated in the margin 4 Will be varied at Will and in accordance with the full amount for which the ticket is drawn. When the ticket is made out in the name of a party and the issue completed, the member l is handed to said party and the member 2 is retained by the party giving credit, said member 2 being filled out to snit the demands of the creditor.
Changes in the form, proportions, and minor details may be resorted to Without departing from the nature or spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new 'is- In a trading-ticket, the combination with a guarantee member or strip having a promissory note on its obverse side and an authorization on the reverse side to pay the party named in the note the amount for which the ticket is drawn, of a trading-ticket member, primarily connected to the guarantee member and separable from the latter, and having on its obverse side matter indicating a fixed lpurchasing value, a su rrounding disposition of numerals representing fractional values and adapted to be canceled by punching, andv an inclosed space for the names of parties in account with each other, and on the reverse side said trading-ticket having a tabulated form for dates, articles purchased, and prices paid therefor to inseparably combine the debit and credit account on one member, the spaces containing the numerals on the obverse side being irregular With relation to the tabulated form on the reverse side to avoid total mutilation of the matter on the said reverse side. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
