WILLIAM F. HARTE, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
HiOTEL ROOM-REGISTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 652,771, datedd'uly 3, 1900;
Application filed November 22, 1899. Serial No. 737,899. (lilo model.) I Q A To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM F. HARTE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hotel Room- Registers, of which the following is a speciti= cation, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a device termed a hotel room-register, adapted to carry a series of spring-clamps having numbers corresponding with the numbers of rooms for guests in a hotel, the said spring-clamps being for the purpose of detachably holding cards upon which may be placed numbers corresponding with the number of the room and also with the numbe1 of the springclamp, which cards are also designed to have entered thereon an account or any other memorandum concerning the guest that may occupy the room and also have entered thereon the name of the guest.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the register. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the register. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the register, taken on the line in Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow; and Fig. 4 is a face view of one of the cards used with the register.
A represents a frame or case, which may be of the form shown or any other desired form, to the forward sideof which is secured a series of horizontally-arranged blocks B,t'ormed substantially wedge shape in cross-section and placed in line with each other across the face of the case A and separated from each other by a series of vertically-arranged partitions G and placed so as to have theirthicker edges upward to form a support for the respective cards 0, as shown particularly in Fig. 3. It is intended that there shall be as many of these blocks 13 as there are guestrooms in the hotel and that each block may support one of said cards. Each one of said blocks B has a spring-clamp D located centrally behind it and attached at its lower end to the case A by means of screws, as is shown in Fig. 3, and each one of said spring-clamps is provided with a head K, upon which a number is placed corresponding with that of the room it represents. The blocks B are each provided with a notch E-in its .rearside or backfor receiving the spring-clamp D and permittingits 'upperend. to move forward and backward in-or'de'r tofplace b'ehi'nd'it or re move it'from behind one of thecard s G.
The form of the blocksB holds the upper part of the cards forward, so they may be easily placed in and taken out and so they may be the more easily read. When a card is placed in behind one of the spring-clamps D, it is firmly held in place thereby, but may be easily removed in order to enter thereon the name and account of a guest, as stated.
The device is constructed so as to prefer ably stand on a hotel desk or counter, but may be so constructed as to stand in any other convenientplace in a hotel oifice.
In operation when a room isassigned to a guest his name and the number of his room are entered on one of the cards, together with any account or memoranda necessary, and the card is then-placed behind the springolamp corresponding in number with the room, where the card is kept until the guest departs,when it is removed for settlement with him. The room-numbers on the heads K of the spring-clamps D are intended to be made large and prominent, so as to be plain and easily read and are intended to be clamped about central, so as to not obstruct matter on the card more than necessary. The division strips or partitions G separate the blocks B, so as to cause them to be arranged in vertical rows, and also serve to maintain the cards 0 in their proper places.
The base of the case A may be provided with a drawer or a series of drawers J to hold the cards 0 or other articles, and the back of the case may be constructed so as to form advertising-spaces, as shown at'F inFig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is as follows:
1. The hotel room-register shown and described comprising the combination of the case A, the horizontally-arranged blocks B secured to the face of said case, and being thicker at their upper side than at the bottom and adapted to support cards placed thereon, the spring-clamps D arranged between said blocks in Vertical recesses therein and having their lower ends secured to the case A, and having respectively the numbered heads K corresponding with the numbers of the rooms, and adapted to detachably hold cards having numbers corresponding with said clamp heads and rooms all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The hotel room-register shown and described, comprising the combination of the case A having the advertising-spaces F on its back, and having a drawer J in its base, the series of horizontal blocks B secured to the face of said case contiguous to each other and arranged in vertical series separated bya division-strip G, and constructed so as to be thicker at their upper side than at their lower side, and having respectively recesses E in their rear part or back and adapted to support respectively a card seated on said block,
the spring-clamps D arranged respectively behind each one of said blocks B in its recess E, and having a numbered head K corresponding in number with the rooms, and adapted to respectively clamp and hold a card having a number corresponding with the clamp and room number, and adapted to have entered thereon the name and account of a guest, and the card 0 adapted to be detachably held by said spring-clamp, and having a number corresponding with the clamp and room number and adapted to have entered thereon the name of a guest and an account all arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
