Description

@eine tetes @anni @fitte L( s. FISHER, or BBoADIInAI), WISCONSIN.
Letters .Patent No. 63,877, dated April 16, 1867.
IMPROVEMENT IN MODE 0F HANGING AND GUIDING THE HARNESS LOOMS.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN l v Be it known that I, L. S. FISHER, of Broadhead, county of Greene,rin the State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and improved Loom,l and I do hereby declare that the-following is a/full and exact description thereof, reference beingr to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
i The nature of my inventioneonsists in a certain improvement on the Henderson loom, patented January 1, 1861, and pertains to 'the hanging and guiding of the-harnesses.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it.
' In the Henderson loom above referred to, as well as most others, the harnesses-are attached -in pairs to the opposite end of a single strand, which plays over a pulley located centrally over the harnesses. This arrangement is very objectionable, as it does not insure perfect or accurate shedding'-openingot` the Warp to receive the filling. Indeed, with it it isalmost impossible to make a perfect shed, as the 'harnesses are attached to each other and raised'only by this central strand, consequently the ends oi' the harnesses have no positive vertical movement, and of course Without a certain positive movement ot'` both ends of the harness, thatis, being parallel as well as vertical, (the top and bottom piecesremaining horizontal.) Without this -movcment of both ends of the harness the loom fails, as there can be no shedding-without it, and without this movement or with no shedding the shuttle cannot pass and no filling can be received. lThis diiculty of keeping both ends of the harness at the same elevation, or of imparting to them the same vertical movement, as has been before said, my loom seeks to remedy. By my device I remedyv the ldefects of enderson'land others as to hanging and guiding the harnesses. It may be Henderson sought but .thiledtoaccomplish my very aim by his guy and strand. I have overcome the diiiculty, or insured a parallel-as well as Vvertical movement, and preserved the horizontal position of the top and bottom pieces by attachingor pairing the harness, as will be described. In the drawingsi i `Figure l represents a perspective drawing of' my loom.
`Figure 2, the harness'guide. v A
A A represent the frame, B B the harnesses.- In the centre of their ytop piecesA there is an eye, a, and in the ends arescreIv-eyes, b. Two-cords, c, are fastened to the 4centre of each harness frame. These pass .up and over pulleys d d, properly secured in .top of frame, then 'passing over other pulleys ff, at the ends, pass down, and Iare attached to the outer ends of another harness to hooks b. This arrangement of attaching both ends of each harness to the central portion of another, (byfcords of cq'ua-l length,) running over pulleys and 4both ends of the latter tothe central portion of the'former, secures an equal, uniform movement of all partsof the harness.A Frepresents the guides for the ends of the harness. They are not rigid, but suspended, and have a vertical and horizontal adjustability, serving equally as well as rigid ones to keep the harness separate, so preventing them from rubbing or getting tangled together. Gr G r are weights suspended from cords g g, the end of each one being attached respectively to the web and cloth-beams, keeping the sume taut on the beams, which are operated by the movement of the lay or batten in beating up, and it is essentialthat the movement of these beams in paying out the yarn andin taking up the cloth should be regulated. The catch or dog on the yarn-beamis only to be used when there is no yarn on beam, or when you desire te change the Weights.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the Y 1. Hanging the harness in looms in the mannerV substantially as shown and described and-for the purpose set forth.
2. AThe adjustable guides F,`in combination with the harnesses B B, constructed and operated in the manner as shown and described and for 'the purpose set forth. y
