4UNITED F STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL B. YVALLACE, OF DECATUR, ILLINOIS,
lRONlNG-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 634,741, dated October 10, 1899. Y v lApplication tiled January l1, 1.899. Serial o, 701,858. (No model.) i
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that LDANIEL B. WALLACE, of the city of Decatur, Macon county, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.-
My invention relates to ironing-boards; and
it consists of the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure lis a view in perspective of my irnproved ironing-board, the same being in position forv use. tional View taken approximately on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view looking at the under side of the ironing-board,the same be# ing folded for storage or transportation. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the folded ironingboard.
In the construction of my improved device the board or table lis provided with a pointed outer end 2, Vand in the opposite end of said board is located a plurality of longitudinallyextending slots Immediately in front of these slots 3 and on top of the board l is rigidly ixed a transverse cleat 4. Secured to the under side of the board l is a pair of cleats 5, the same being positioned between the slots 3, said cleats extending from said slots longitudinally toward the forward end of the board 1.
Pivotally secured to the under side of th board 1 at each side thereof are the rear ends of swinging arms (i.
Z 7 indicate legs securely framed together adjacent their lower ends, the upper ends of which legs hinge upon a rod 8, passing through the rear ends of thev cleats 5, and said legs are extended a vslight distance beyond this.
rod 8 and are provided with the heads 9, having the flat lower faces 10.
A bosom and sleeve ironing-board Il is provided at its rear end with a pairof lugs l2 and 13, which lugs hinge upon the rod 14, passed directly through the heads 9 of the n pper ends of the legs 7, v
When my improved ironing-board is inuse, the board 1 is brought into a horizontal position with the slotted rear end of said board immediately beneath. the edge of the table,
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal secafter which the lower ends of the legs are engaged upon the door, and the outer end of the ironing-board l is lowereduntil the edge of the table is clamped .between the dat lower faces l0 of the heads S) and the upper face of the rear end of said board. The bosom or sleeve ironing-board 1l is swung over onto the table on which the ironing-board is engaged, as seen .in Fig. 2, whileV the ironing board or table l is being used, and, if desired, the arms G may be swung laterally from their positions beneath the edges of the boardor. table l to sustain the sleeves or any portion of the garment that is being ironed.
'When it is desired to use the bosom or Vthelegs 7 are swung upwardly againstthe under side of the board or table l, and finally the bosom or sleeve board ll'is swung upwardly to a position immediately beneath the legs 7. When the legs 7 are swung upwardly against the under side of the board ortable 1, the body portions of said legs will occupy positions on each side of and between the longitudinally extending cleats 5. Thus when said board is folded it is very compact and a large number of said boards may be stored in a comparatively small space.
The lugs 12 and 13 are eccentric-ally pivoted between the heads 9, and when the sleeveboard ll is swung over into position for use the-edge of the table will be clamped between the higher portion of the lugs 12 and 13 and the rear en d of the board or table l.
An ironing-board of my improved construction is simple, strong, and` durable, is easily manipulated, andis very eiiicient in use.
I claim;-
'In a device of the class described, an ironing-board havinga slotted rear end, the transverse cleat 4 arranged on .top'of said board in front of said slots, a pair of longitudinallyextending cleats fixed to the under side of the board, a plurality of legs framed together and hinged between the rear ends of the lon- IOO gitudinally extending cleats, the heads 'J ranged beneath the side edges of the ironing- Io formed integral with lche upper ends of seid board, substantially as Specied.
legs, which heads are provided with flat lower l In testimony whereof I ax my signature surfaces, the rear ends of which legs pass npx in presence of two Witnesses.
Wardly through Jhe slots in the ironing-board i i w :L bosom-ironing board, the lugs 12 and 13 in l DANIEL TALLAQL' tegral with the rear end of said bosom-hoard, Titnessesz which lugs are eccentrically pivoted between M. B. SMITH,
the heads of the legs, and swinging arms ar- ALBERT J. MCOAULEY.
