STOVE LID LIFTER,
(Application filed Mar. 9, 1898.1

TNE norms vzrsns so Puc'rmmnu. WASHINGTON. c.
HARRY BITNFR, OF BERW'YN, ILLINOIS.
STOVE-LID LIFTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 632,213, dated August 29, 1899.
Application filed March 9, 1898.
To aZZ whom, it incl/y concern:
Beit known that I, HARRY BITNER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Berwyn, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Lid Lifters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain improvements in stove-lid lifters, the object being to obtain greater simplicity, strength, and cheapness in a construction not likely to become heated as far as the handle portion when left in a hot stove-lid.
The drawings show, in Figure 1, a plan of the preferred form of the invention; in Fig. 2, an under plan; in Fig. 3, a side elevation showing the lifter in the position ordinarily occupied when in a stove-lid; in Fig. 4., a section in line 4 4 of Fig. 3 looking in the direction of the arrows there shown; and in Fig. 5, an end View of the toe of the lifter looking from the arrow 5 of Fig. 3.
The handle portion is lettered A and is preferably composed of Wire bent to form the two sides of the handle and extending therefrom to the toe and terminating in laterally-projecting ends a a. Said handle portion is preferably bent so as to be upwardly convex, as is customary in lifters, and a portion of the handle a is crimped Vertically to give a more secure hold and prevent the handle from slipping endwise in the hand. The toe B is adapted to receive and hold the ends of the wire forming the handle and is preferably made of sheet metal perforated to allow the laterally-projecting ends of the wire to extend through the same and form the heels of the lifter, the metal of the toe being clenched upon the portions of the wire adjacent to said ends upon the under side, as seen at b. The perforations are lettered b, and the upper side of the toe between the two wires is preferably bent downward, as seen at 6 to assist in holding the wires firmly in the toe.
In operation the laterally-projecting ends Serial No. 673,159. (No model.)
1. A stove-lidlifter having ahandle formed I of wire bent upon itself and bearing two adjacent ends projecting laterally in opposite directions and a suitable toe secured to the wire whereby the laterally-projecting ends of the wire may serve to rest upon the top of the stove-lid; substantially as described.
2. In a stove-lid lifter the combination with a wire handle having the two ends of the wire brought together and projecting laterally in opposite directions of a suitably-perforated toe secured to the handle by thrusting said ends through the perforations in the toe and clenching the latter upon the wire; substantially as described.
3. In a stove-lid lifter the combination with a wire handle having the two ends of the wire brought together and projecting laterally in opposite directions of a perforated sheetmetal toe secured to the wire by thrusting said ends through the perforations bending the toe down between the wires and clenching it upward about the same; substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, this 7th day of March, A. D. 1898.
HARRY BITNER.
Witnesses:
