Description

No. 630,836. Patented Aug. l5, I899.
H. H. ALLEN.
WHIFFLETREE HOOK.
(pplica'tionjled June 28, 1899-) (No Model.)
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERBERT H. ALLEN, OF BROOKSVILLE, FLORIDA.
WHIFFLETREE-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 630,836, dated August 15, 1899.
Application filed June 28,1899- Serial No. 722,154. (No model.)
, ence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in whiffietree-hooks, and especially to a hook which is adapted to be held 7 to the end of the whiffletree, means being provided whereby the hook may be held from slipping on the whiffletree, and composed of two pieces, the ends of which are adapted to be locked together when the device is adjusted in" place.
More specifically, the invention consists in a whiffletree-hook made up of two complemental sections which are pivoted together each section having a hooked portion and a semicircular whiffletree-engaging shank portion having on its inner concaved margin an integral lug which is adapted to engage in the whiffletree, while the ends of the portions which surround the whiffletree are designed to be held together by means of a suitable locking-key, thus preventing the sections forming the whiffletree hook from sliding upon the whiftletree.
To these ends and to such others as the invention may pertain the same consists in the novel construction, combination, and adaptation of parts, as will be hereinafter more clearly described and then specifically defined in the appendedclaims.
Hy invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form part of this application, and in which drawings-- Figure l is a perspective view of my whiffietree-hook shown as open or the two parts adjusted in position to be slipped over the end of the whiffletree, and Fig. 2 is a view showing the two complemental parts forming the whiffietree-hook as locked together.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A A designate two complemental portions of the whiffletreehook, which have the hooked ends A preferably fiat on their adjacent faces and oval or rounding on their outer faces and are pivoted together at B. The shank portions or hooks are bent in the shape shown and are preferably of circular outline and have on their concaved edges the integral lugs G, which are diametrically opposite each other, while the outer free ends of said shank portions are bent at right angles, as at D, and have apertures D, through which a key E is designed to be held in order to lock the free ends of said shank portions together or in such position that the lugs carried by the shank portions or hook-sections will engage in the whiffletree'.
From the foregoing, when taken in connection with the drawings forming part of this application, it will be noted that the whiffletreehook constructed as shownand described when adjusted to a whifiietree and locked thereto will'not slide, but will be positively held in a fixed position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim to be new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A whiffletree-hook, comprising in combination with the whiffletree, two complemental hook-sections pivoted together, and having lugs, which are designed to engage in holes in the whiffletree, and means for holding the hooked sections so that such lugs will be held in engagement with the whiffletree, as set forth.
2. In combination with the whiffletree, two complemental whiftletree-hook sections piV- oted together, their shank portions being in circular outline, and having integral lugs diametrically opposite each other, the outer ends of said shank-sections being bent at right angles, and apertured, and a key designed to fit in said aperture, as shown and described. I
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HERBERT H. ALLEN;
IVitnesses:
