Beit known that 1, ODILON ARCH'AHBAULT, a subject of ller Majesty the Queen of Great Britain, residing at St. Hyacinthe, county of St. Hyacinthe, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .acetylene-'Gas Generatorsg.
and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in acetylene-gas-generating apparatus.
The object of my invention is to provide a construction in which a series of carbid-receptaclcs are operatively connected to the generating-chamber, each of said receptacles being adapted to be brought into operative connectionV independently'to enable the refilling when necessary.
A further object is to provide a construction simple and efficientfwhich will automatioally deliver the carbid to the generatingchamber. Y
Afurther object is to provide a generatingchamber in which the residue can be readily removed.
A further object is to provide a construction compact in form, simple and efficient in operation, durable in construction, andwhich can'be made at a moderate cost.
4To these and other ends my invention consists in the improved construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described,

The top 5 of the generating-chamber is provided with a series of openings 6, in which are secured verticallyextending pipes 7, each of said pipes being provided with two valves 8 9, preferably arranged as shown in the drawings, said valves serving to regulate the passage of the carbid from the carbid-receptacle 10, as hereinafter described. As shown, each receptacle 10 is provided with an 'g cning 11 at its top, to close which a removabie cap 12 is provided, the opening 11 being adapted to allow of the passage of the carbid into the receptacle 10 during refilling.- Each valve 8 is provided with an elongated stem 13, on which is mounted a tube 1l, forming a lever by means of which the v'alve may be tu rned, A `second lever 15, having a hook portion 16, is also mounted on the stern 13, said lever' being extended in a direction opposite that of the lever or tube 14, the hook portion 16 being adapted to receive a weight V17, byv means of which the valve w/ifll benormally held in its closed position. The tube or lever 14 is adapted to receive one end of a removable rod 18, the opposite end'of which is adapted to be removably con- `nected to a rod 19, connected to and extending upwardly from the telescoping section 20 of the gasometer 21, the connection between the rod 18 and rod 19 being arranged to allow of a ready insertionof the end of the rod 18 into-either one of the tubes or levers 14, the tube or lever 14 not operatively connected to the rod 18 resting in a suitable supportinghook 22, formed on the-receptacle 10. end of the red 18 is bifurcated, as shown in Fig. 1, said end being ladapted to embrace the rod 19, being held from vertical movement onsad rod by means of suitable pins located in the rod 19 above and below the bifurcated end.

l t will be readily seen that as the section 2O of the ga'someter moves vertically the valveS, operatively connected therewithvili be given a movement to open and close the valved opening, allowing the carbid to pass downward through the pipe and valve 9 to the generating-chamber. As before explained, the valves 8 are arranged to be opened alternately, as desired. By this construction the carbid-re-V ceptacle not in use can be detached for filling, if desired, yet preventingthe outlet of gas when the receptacle is removed.
By reason' of the corrugated bottom channels will be formedwithin which the residue falls, from which it can be readily removed by opening`the pipes 27 and 29, the water passing through the channels andfercing the residue therefrom.
