Description

@eine gistenl attentl ffitn SYLVESTEE DRILL, 0E cHiooPEE, MASSACHUSETTS,I ASSIGNOE Tor EIM- SELF AND DEAKE, oE SAME PLACE.
Leiters Patent No. 62,630, dated Merch 5,` 1867.
IMPROVBD WRENCH.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CON CERN:
Be it known that I, SYLVESTER B. HILL, of' Chieopee, Hampdencounty, Commonwealth of' Massachusetts, have' invented a new and useful Improved Wrenohg and I do hereby declare that thel-oilowing is a. full and exact description thereof, reference being hed to the accompanying dren/ings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the drawings, the ligure represents o side view and partiel section of my invention.
My invention consists of a new arrangement and construction of' parts of e wrench, whereby it is rendered more eeetive,
To accomplish this purpose I form the handle A of a hollow cylinder. having suiieient room inside to allow the jaw B to be worked beck into it es the grip oi wrench is loosened or the jaws opened wider. This jaw B is made with a long shank2 which has threads cut on the top end bottom sides, whichare operated upon by corresponding'threads'inside of e-nut7 D, on the front end oi' handle A, which is l'ept in piece by the gibs a, attached to the hnndleand forming a groove for the :int I) to work in. hrough the entire'length of the shankjaw B and its shank is made a, square hole, .throiigh which thc shank of the other jaw Cl passes, the end of which is made with a shoulder and bolt, E, which. projects through a hole in the rear end of the handle and is fastened by a nut, F, on the outside of' the letter. The circumference of the nut D is guarled, so as to allow a firmer hold to be taken by the hand, and by turning, this nut either way the jaw B is worked out or in, in the one-cese the sha-nk of the same working beck into the handle A. i
By this means I ohtain a very compact and strong tool, and one not liable to get out of order, and consisting of but few parts, and those simple in construction. It is easily manufactured and kept in repair.
Now, having described my invention, what I claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A wrench, having the jaws B and C, handle A, and nutD5-eonstructed and :arranged substantially as herein described SYLVESTER B. HILL. Witnesses:
EDWARD H. HYDE, EDWARD KING.
