H. STURM. FLYING SGAFFULDING 0B STAGING.
(Application filed Feb. 21, 1899.)
(No Model.)
I NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRI STURM, on PERREUX, FRANCE.
FLYING SCAFFOLDING OR STAGING.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 624,573, dated. 9, 189 9.
Application filed February 21, 1899. Serial N- 706,360. (No model.)
T 0 ctZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRI STURM, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Perreux, in the Department of the Seine, France, have invented an Improved Flying Scaffolding or Staging, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object a system of flying scaffolding or staging for use in laying foundations for fioorin gs in general, and more a particularly brick floors, by removing the multiple drawbacks inherent in the systems of scaffolds at present employed for effecting this operation. Such scaffoldin gs are usually composed of a false flooring sustained by brackets or supports which necessarily have their point of support on the floor of the story immediately below them, the result of which is that it is necessary to wait in order to commence the construction of the foundation of a flooring until that of the lower story is completed and dried, which naturally causes the construction to goon more slowly. Further, the systems at present employed are very cumbersome and take a long time in fitting up, and are consequently costly.
My improved system of scaffolding, in consequence of its characteristic, which consists in it taking its support on the iron girders of the flooring itself on which the foundation is to be executed, allows of all the drawbacks pointed out being suppressed, and has, further, the advantage of not being very costly and of being capable of being erected very rapidly.
In order to allow the description to be better understood, I will now refer to the accompanyin g drawings, which show as anexample the application of my system to the formation of a flooring-foundation made of bricks of special form called passe-partout.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the whole of the scaffolding. Fig. 2 is a sectional view at right angles to the beams or girders of the floor. Fig.3 is a sectional View parallel to the beams of the floor.
The same letters of reference represent the same parts in the different figures.
The scaffolding is composed of two I irons or bars D D and two or more strips or flat bars E E. These flat bars E E are each pro vided with two apertures and are passed, on the one hand, over the bar D, along which they move freely, and carry,on the other hand,
the bar D. The flooring staging is obtained by placing the bar D on the girders Q and by connecting two or more scaffoldings thus formed by beams or planks G, placed on the lower bars D. In order to regulate exactly the height of the flooring or staging, wedges F F are placed between bars D and the girders of the floor. The flat strips E E, the number of which varies according to the distance existing between the girders, do not affect in anythingthe construction of the foundation, because owing to their slight thickness three to four millimeters being sufficient-and their mobility on the bars D they may be placed exactly in the joints be= may be varied and such materials be. em-- ployed in their construction as may be deemed suitable without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to beperformed, I declare that what I claim is A system of flying scaffolding or staging for use in laying foundations for floorings, characterized by the combination with two bars, one of which placed on the girders of the floor supports the whole arrangement while the other supports the beams or planks forming the false flooring, of two fiat bars or plates sliding on the first of said bars and supporting the second, the whole substantially as hereinbefore described and shown in the accompanying drawings. I
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
HENRI STURM.
