UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY FAIRBANKS AND FREDERICK W. TAYLOR, OF ST. JOHNSBURY, VERMONT, ASSIGNORS TO THE E. & T. FAIRBANKS & COMPANY, OF
SAME PLACE.
PRINTING-REGISTER FOR WElGHlNG-SCALES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 616,303, dated December 20, 1898.
Application filed April 4, 1898. Serial No. 676,418. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HENRY FAIRBANKS an d FREDERICK W. TAYLOR,GltiZel1S of the United States, residing at St; Johnsbury,in the county of Caledonia and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Printing-Registers forWeighing-Scales, of which the followingis a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Our invention relates to an improvement in printing-registers for weighing-scales, of which a type is shown in the patent granted Henry Fairbanks, No. 597,640 and the object of the present invention is to provide certain advantageous details in the construction of the poise, poise-slides, (he.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter described and referred to in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which il1ustrate the invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of a portion of a printing-beam embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a section taken at B, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section taken at A, Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a section taken at C, Fig. 1.
In the drawings the main poise," which by means of rollers o is guided on the main beam 6, is constructed as shown in the sectional views, preferably with an inclined front wall, as shown at :r. The main poise is manipulated by the latch (Z in the ordinary way.
Projecting inwardly from the wall :10 of the main poise are integral projections .2, which are provided with a squared groove, in which is guided the rib y, screwed to the upper edge of the first poise-slide c. This rib y is preferably of a strip of steel and throughout a portion of its length is provided with notches u to receive the roller upon the end of the springarm 8, which is secured to the upper edge of one of the projecting pieces One of these projecting pieces .2 is preferably arranged in a plane directly above the platen, and it fits s is practically brought over the supporting rollers q, upon which the poise-slides have an antifriction hearing. The second poiseslide f has throughouta portion of itslength an inwardly-projecting part, as shown in Fig. 2, which backs up against the first poise-slide e, and this second poise-slide f has also a notched piece 10, upon which bears the roller on the end of the spring-arm s, also secured to one of the projecting pieces 2. The poise slide 6 is moved through the medium of the thumb and finger piece h and the pinion g, engaging teeth on the under side of said poiseslide, while the second poise-slide f is simi= larly moved by the thumb and finger piece 72/ and the pinion g. The poise-slides e and f are grooved on their under sides to snuglyfit their supporting-rollers q q.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Let= ters Patent, is
1. In combination with the main beam, a poise slidable thereon, an inwardly-projecting part on said poise, a poise-slide having means for engagement and guidance on the said projection, and means for operating said poise-slide; substantially as described.
2. In combination with the main beam, a poise slidable thereon having inwardly-extending projections, a guideway formed in said projections, and a poise-slide having a projection in engagement with said guideway 5 substantially as described.
3. In combination with the main beam, a poise slidable thereon having inwardly-er:- tending projections formed with a groove, and a poise-slide provided with a rib engaging said groove; substantially as described.
4. In combination with the main beam, a poise slidable thereon having inwardly-ex tending projections formed with a groove,
and a poise-slide provided with a rib engagattached to the main poise directly above the ing said groove, said rib being also provided printing-platen. with notches, and a spring-roller supported In testimony whereof we aiiix our signafrom one of said projections engaging said tures in presence of two Witnesses. 11 t 11 u stain -i- 11 1 s des ri ed.
