TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, LUKE AUGUSTUS PLUMB, of Biddeford, in the county of York, and State of Maine,
have invented a new and improved Combination of Lamp, Cofiee-Pot, and Boiler; and I do hereby declare that the following-is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section of my invention complete, or with all the'parts adjusted together, taken in the line a: :v, fig. 3.
Figure 2, a vertical section of the lamp and cofi'ee-pot.
Figure 3, a horizontal section of'fig. 1, taken in the line y 3;.
Figure 4, a detached sectional view of a cone pertaining to the lamp-burner.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to anew and improved combination of a lamp, tea or cofi ee-pot; and boiler orpitcher, whereby an ordinary coal-oil lamp may be rendered serviceable as a heater for cooking in a small way, such, for instance, as the making of cofiee and tea, warming water, and keeping a meal warm during the delay or temporary absence of a person from the table.
A represents a lamp, which may be constructed in any of the known forms, and B is the burner thereof, providedwith a cone or deflector, C, such as are commonly used. with coal-oil burners. D represents a tube, which is fittedon the cone 0 and firmly screwed thereto by any proper means. It may be permanently attached thereto by solder, or a screw, a, may be formed on it to admit of an internal screw, 6, in being screwed upon it. This latter mode I prefer, although I do not confine myself to any precise plan for the purpose. E is a pitcher or boiler, constructed with a tube, F, at its centre, which serves the purpose of a chimney, and into the lower end of which the tube D on cone 0 is fitted when said pitcher or boiler is adjusted to the lamp; This tube D, it will be seen, performs an important feature, to wit, serving as a means-for holding the pitcher or boiler or ot er vssel on the .lamp, and at the same time admitting of the vessel being very readily applied to and detached therefrom. The tube F of the pitcher or boiler F projects a short distance above its upper end, so as toadmit of'the lower end of the tube G of a coffee-pot, H,'being fitted upon it, as shown in' fig. 1. Bythis arrangement it will be seen that the two vessels, to wit, the coffee-pot and the boiler, may be applied at once or at the same time to the lamp, or either applied thereto separately, as may be desired. The heat radiated from the tubes F G heats the contents of the vessels E H, and these vessels may be placed on and removed from the lamp while in use on the table, so that their contents may always be kept warm. 'In order to insure the greatest possible radiation of heat from the tubes F G, heat arr-esters, I, may be placed in them. These may be constructed in any proper manner, similar to those now used in stove pipes to prevent the passage of heat into the flue or chimney. The pitcher or boiler E, I construct with. chambers, J, arranged so as to be removable, the same being fitted around the tube E, and extending down any suitable or desired distance within E. The' removable chambers admit of different articles being cooked or kept warm within E, and any one of them may be removed at pleasure for theconvenience of filling them or taking substances from them. The tube D is perforated, as shown at a*, so as to admit air to the flame, and the'device will prove to be a great convenience for cooking in asmall way and keeping food warm. 7
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The tube'D attached to the cone C of the burner of the lamp, when used in connection with a vessel provided with a central draught-tube to fit over said tube D, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
2. The employment or use, in a vessel provided with a central draught-tube for a lamp, of a vessel, E, provided with two or more removable chambers J, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination, with a lamp, of two or more vessels, E H, provided with central draught-tubes, arranged so that the draught-tube of one vessel will extend above its top to admit of the lower end of the tube of the other vessel being fitted upon it, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 25th day of August, 1865. v
