Description

IUUI
COATING 0R PLASTIC.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
.TOTIANXES STOCKER, FRIEDRICH MEISSNER, AND llERMl-XXN ZANDER, OF RATITENOYV, GERMAXY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 607,292, dated July 12, 1898.
Application filed June 25,1897- Serial No 642,343.
No specimens) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHANNES STOCKER, FRIEDRICH Mmssxnn, and HERMANN Zn- DER, subjects of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, residing at Rathenow, in the Kingdom of Prussia, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fire and Weather Proof Com position, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a fire and weather proof composition which can he made serviceable for a large number of industrial purposes aud which can be produced at comparatively small expense.
The composition can be used either in liquid or solid state. \Vhen prepared in liquid state, it can be used for painting roofs in place of coal-tar, also as a coating for steamboilers ships, and wire cables. ien it is to lie used in solid state, itis formed in plates of any desired size and in this condition can be worked with the lathe, drill, or tap.
Our improved fire and weather proof composition is produced in the following manner: Three parts of caustic soda are dissolved in twenty parts of sod] r )otassium silicate. To the SOllltlOIl ten paris of ground :1r -clav are added. This mixture is allowed 10 stand for about three hours, and to it then are added two parts of burnt magnesite two parts of ground otters clav and six parts of a suitable filling materia such as steatite or ground asbestos fiber. The composition may be ma e 0 any dpsired color by adding the proper i ment. 1 ll theproportions given are by weighf.
references.
\Vhen it is desired to obtain the composition in liquid state, it is mixed in a paintgrindlng mill with five parts of the oil of the ground-nut. In this form it can be usc( 1e pam mg of exposed parts of buildingssuch as roofs, walls, and the like-and forms thereby a fire and weather proof protection for the same.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The herein-described fire and weather proof composition, consisting of sodium or potassium silicate, and caustic soda dissolved in the same, ground fire-clay, burnt magnesite, ground potters clay, and a suitable filliuglnaterial, substantially as set forth.
2. The herein-described fire and weather proof composition, consisting of sodium or potassium silicate, and caustic soda dissolved in the same, ground fire-clay, burnt magnesite, ground potters clay, a suitable filling material, and oil of the ground-nut, substantially as set forth.
In testimony thatwe claim the foregoing as our invention we have signed our names in presence of.two subscribing witnesses.
JOIIANNES STOCKER. FRIEDRICH MEISSNER. HERMANN ZANDER.
