Beit known that l, MAURICE WEETHEI- MER, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fasteners for Gloves and other Articles, of which the following is a specification.

l will describe a fastener embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in the claims.

ln the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the wrist portion of a glove embodying my improvement, the said glove being open. Fig. 2 is a view of the inner side of one edge portion of the wrist-opening. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of one part of one of the fastenings, the plane of the section being on a line lengthwise of the detent. Fig. l is a transverse section taken in a plane at right angles to'that of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section taken parallel to the glove material and at the plane of the dotted line 5 5, Fig. 3. Fig. 6 is a section similar to Fig. 5, but on the line G 6, Fig. e. Fig. 7 is a section taken at the plane of the dotted line 7 7, Fig. 3.

Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.

A designates a glove having an ordinary wrist-opening@,securedbyfastenings. These fastenings consist, essentially, of two parts B B2, arranged at intervals along opposite edges of the wrist-opening o. The parts B consist, essentially, of plates b5, secured by riveting or otherwise to the glove material and having on their outer sides projecting studs or posts h4, in whose outer portions are recesses which may consist of circumferential grooves b5. The parts B2 areprovided with sockets 13G, into which the studs or posts himay enter, and detents 737 for engaging with the grooves h5. The detente are provided with projecting ends, here shown as made in the form of rings or eyes 198, which are on the inner side of the glove material. To these eyes is attached a cord C. This cord C is tied or otherwise fastened in the eyes b5, and preferably is also run through guides D, which may be made of sheet metal in the forno of clips attached by prongs or otherwise to the glove material, said guides being preferably located midway between the parts B2 of the fastening. The

cord C, at a point between the end of the glove and the first fastening part- B2, is passed through an eyelet E to the outside of the glove material. This eyelet E may be of any suitable material- 3.5, for instance, a metal eyelet inserted and riveted in the glove tnaterial.

I will now more fully describe the construction of the part B2 of the fastener with gef 4erence to Figs. 3, Il, and 5. The detent 137 is located between a housing b and a coveringplate bm. The housing is shown as of disk form, with a rim at the outer circumference and a tube at the center, forming the socket b, all these parts being preferably made integral. The covering-plate 1910 is made in the form of a disk which surrounds the tube forming the'socket Zi, and lits within the circumferential riin of the housing. Claws 1911, extending fromv the rim, are bent into engagement with the 'covering-plate, so as to retain it in place, and the covering-plate is provided with lugs i212, that extend outward into notches in the riniof the housing. Thus the housing and covering-plate are retained in proper relation to each other. The housing is also provided with claws hfor projecting from the rim and intended to pass through the glove material and be clenched over it for the purpose of securing the part B2 of the fastener to the glove material.

gage with it. I do not regard such a plate as necessary, but it may be desirable for keeping the glove material from puffing up on the outside of the covering-plate bw.

The detent if has a ring-shaped portion surrounding the tube forming the socket Z2, and at the sides is intended to iit snugly against this tube, so that the latter may serve as a bearing and guide in the direction of the length of the detent. Its ring-shaped portion is larger than said tube, so that it may inove in the direction of its length relativel y to said tube. This ring-shaped portion is provided with a tooth 514, that may work through an opening in the said tube and therefore engage with the groove b5 of the stud Z2* belonging to the part B of the fastening. A spring or springs 515, bearing at one end against the detent and secured at the other end to the housing, will serve to move the detent into the position j ust described and to hold it there. When the cord C is pulled, it overcomes the spring or springs and withdraws the tooth 514, so that it will not project into the socket, and hence so that it will be disengaged from the stud b4 of the part B of the fastening.

Outside the glove material is a head 516, which may be of any ornamental coniguration. It is iitted to the outside end of the tube forming the socket h6 in such a way that it may slide transversely thereto and in the same direction as the movement of the detent Z. A convenient way of fitting and securing it to the tube forming the socket h6 is to form a circumferential groove in the outer portion of the latter and bend the inner edge of the head??16 into said groove, the opening in the head being made sufficiently long in one direction, as indicated in Fig. 3, to provide for the sliding movement of the head relatively to the tube.

The head 516 is connected to the detent, and in the. present instance by means of a pin 517, which is riveted or otherwise secured in the ring-shaped portion of the detent,l projects outwardly through a slot 518 in the coveringplate '(910 and into a hole in the under side or rear side of the head o16.

It will be seen that by means of myimprovement I provide a sliding detent which may be operated by pulling the cord C or by moving the head Z916.

Ido not wish to be limited to grooved studs, as studs having recesses of a different kind may be used.

Obviously it will be within the spirit of my invention to rotate the head Z216 for unfastening the glove, provided it shall be properly supported and suitably engaged with a detent or slide.

I need hardly remark that if the head 616 of that fastening which is nearest to the wrist end of the glove shall be manipulated it will serve to open all the fastenings.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. The combination with a glove having arranged on one side of the wrist-opening a series of recessed studs, and on the other side of the wrist-opening a series of sockets adapted to receive said studs, a detent in each of the sockets, a movable head on one of said sockets, means for engaging the movable head with the detent of the socket to which it is attached whereby the detent is operated, and means connecting all the detents of the series of sockets, substantially as specified.

2. The combination with a glove having arranged on one side of the wrist-opening a recessed stud, and on the other side of the wrist-opening a part consisting of a housing having a socket, and an outer rim provided with means whereby the fastener is secured to the glove material, and a sliding detent, substantially as specied.

3. The combination with a glove having arranged on one side of the wrist-opening a recessed stud, and on the other side of the wrist-opening apart consisting of a housing having a socket, and an outer rim provided with means whereby the fastener is secured to the glove material, a sliding detent, and a head, substantially as specified.

4. The combination with a glove having arranged on one side of the wristfopeninga recessed stud, and on the other side of the wrist-opening a part consisting of a housing having a socket, and an outer rim provided with means whereby the fastener is secured to the glove material, a sliding detent, a pin secured thereto, and a movable head engaging said pin to move the detent, substantially as specified.

5. The combination with a glove having arranged on one side of the wrist-opening a recessed stud, and on the other sidev of the wrist-opening a part consisting of a socket adapted to receive said stud, a detent, a movable head, and means engaging the movable head with the detent whereby said detent is operated, substantially as specified.

6. The combination with a glove having ar ranged on one side of the wrist-opening a recessed' stud, and on the other side of the wrist-opening a part consisting of a housing having a socket, and an outer rim whereby said housing is secured to the glove material, a covering-plate, a sliding detent, a pin carried thereon, a movable head provided with an elongated opening engaging an annular groove in the socket, and means for engaging the pin carried on the sliding detent to operate the same, substantially as specied.

7. The combination with a glove having arranged on one side of the wrist-opening re cessed studs, and on the other side of the Wrist-opening parts consisting, of housings having sockets, and rims provided with means for securing t-he housings to the glove material, sliding detents, movable heads, means for operating the sliding detents by the movable heads, means for connecting the detents, and guides for said connecting means placed intermediate of the fasteners, substantially as specified.
