DRIVE-PIPE FOR ARTESIAN WELLS, etc.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 596,081, dated December 28, 1897.
Application filed July 8, 1897. $81lal N0. 643,327. (N0 model.)
drawing.
My invention consists of an improvement in drive-pipes for Artesian wells, &c., the construction and operation of which being hereinafter set forth, the novel features of the same being pointed out in the claim which follows the specification.
The figure represents a vertical section of a drive-pipe embodying my invention.
Referring to the drawing, A designates a shoe of usual construction, the same having at the top thereof the reduced cylindrical neck B, on the base of which on opposite sides are the shoulders B and B of annular form, the same being internally and externally screw-threaded, as at O D, for the connection therewith of the pipes E and E, the pipe E being inclosed Within the pipe F and extended above the top ofsaid pipe F, as at Gr. The said shoe A is open at top and bottom and has its lower ends beveled on its inner edge and its bore of the same diameter as the inner pipe, which rests on the corresponding shoulder of the said shoe.
H designates a collar which is formed with a shoulder J on its under face, the same resting on the top of the outer pipe F and encircling the adjacent portion of the inner pipe, While closing the space at the top of said pipes E and F.
K designates a coupling-sleeve which rests on the top of' the collar H and encircles the upper portion of the inner pipe E, it being noticed that the inner surface of said sleeve K is screw-threaded for the connection of the pipe L above the pipe E with the latter and that said pipe L rests on the upper edge of said pipe E.
The device is more particularly designed for driving Artesian Wells and forming holes for conveying steam into mines and hauling ropes therefrom, for pumping water from mines, and other purposes, it being noticed that section after section of the drive-pipe is added until bed-rock is reached, the means employed keeping the pipes straight and the bore-hole plumb, producing perfect Work.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The shoe A With the neck B thereon having shoulders on opposite sides thereof, the inner and outer pipes E and F secured to the opposite sides of said neck and abutting against said shoulders, the collar I-I embracing the saidinner pipe and supported on the said outer pipe, the pipe L having its lower end abutting against the upper end of the inner pipe E, and a coupling-sleeve K engaging the threaded adjacent ends of said pipes E and L and resting against said collar H.
