a bellscrank'lever having an anvil and a projectingportion, a shaft connected with means for rotating the same when released by the 35 depression of the key-lever, a controllingwheel mounted on said shaft and provided with laterally-movable pins which are pro jected in one direction by being engaged by the depending members of one of the sets'of 9o levers, and in an opposite direction by the anvil'of the bell-crank lever, and a gear-wheel laterally movable on the shaft carrying the controlling-wheel for engagement withrotary digit-wheels for the purpose set forth.

In a calculating-machine, a plurality of keys, a shaft having mounted thereon a controlling-wheel laterally-movable pins carried by said controlling-wl-leel, means for changing the position of the pins by the depression of one of the keys, said hey operating a bellcran-lr lever to move one of the keys laterally and release the controlling wheel and another pin in an opposite direction to effect a stopthe purpose set forth.

The combination in a calculating-ma chine, of a seriesof key-levers each having a corresponding touch and limit of movement, said key-levers when depressed actuating piv- 1 1o oted levers; of a shaft having mounted thereon acontrolling-wheel, laterally-movable pins carried by the controlling-wheel, means for moving one of the keys in one direction by the depression of keydever and another in '115 an opposite direction simultaneously, theupthe key moving one of the levers out of the path of the controlling-wheel to permit the partial rotation of the same, and a gear-wheel mounted on the power-driven. rec shaft so as to rotate therewith and actuate the I registering mechanism.

In a calculating-machine, the combination,of the shaft, a controllin g-wheel mounted I thereon and provided with a series of stop pins, said controlling-wheel having a peripheral groove and springs which contact with the stop-pins, for the purpose set forth.
9. In a calculating-machine having a series of nine keys and levers actuated by the depre'ssion of said keys, a controlling-wheel having ten projecting arms and ten stop-pins, a shaft upon which said controlling-wheel is mounted, a gear-wheel also mounted on the shaft having ten teeth, a series of digit-wheels having peripheral. recesses corresponding in number to the number of teeth on the gearwheel mounted on the rotary shaft, a lever,
means for moving the same in the path of the controlling-wheel by a depression of the keys to project one of the stop-pins carried thereby and lock said controlling-wheel, said lever being spring-actuated in an opposite direction to release said controlling-wheel, substantially as shown.
10. In combination with the key and registering mechanisms, of a shaft having a controlling-wheel mounted thereon, said controlling-wheel having projecting points and stoppins, a stop-block mounted adjacent'to one side of the controlling-wheel, and a lever D spring-actuated in one direction and moved against the action of its spring by the depression of one of the keys, said lever when depressed locking the controlling-wheel and retracting one of the previously-projected pins so that the power-driven shaft will be permitted to turnwhen the key is released.
11. In a calculating-machine, the combination with the-key-1evers,of a spring-supported frame having a projecting member, a bellcrank lever, one of the members thereof being engaged by the projecting member of the frame, the key-levers being positioned above a cross-bar of the frame, levers connected to the key-levers and provided with depending members, a controlling-wheel mounted on a shaft, a series of pins carried by the controlling-wheel with whichthe depending members of the lovers engage when the key-levers are depressed, the depression of the key-levers also actuating the bell-crank lever to move the same in the path of the controlling- Wheel, the controlling-wheel being released by the upward movement of the key-levers to permit arotation of the power-drivenshaft;
together with registering mechanism actuated by said power-driven shaft.
12. The combination with a series of digitwheels mounted on a'shaft, means for adj usting said digit-wheels thereon, of a series of pawls having laterally-extended portions'for engagement with recesses in'the digit-wheels and enlarged ends adapted to ride on the faces of the digit-wheels, the shaft upon which the pawls are mounted having means for elevating said pawls in unison and moving the same laterally to efiect thedisengagement of the laterally-bent ends of said pawls from the grooves in the digit-wheels.
