convenient apparatus for holding flour and other sacks and the like while being cleaned or repaired.

Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a general plan of the apparatus, and Fig. 2 a longitudinal section of a portion of it.

Upon suitable A shaped or other standards a I mount a hollow shaft 1), having therein a longitudinal slot or opening 0. Inside this hollow shaft 1) is a spindle d, capable of beingmoved longitudinally by a lever 6, one end of which is pivoted to a frame f, the pivoting-point g being outside the axis of the shaft 1). The other end of e moves along a segmental rack h and has a spring-catch 2', by which 6 may be kept at any required position along h. On the hollow shaft 1) is a sliding collar j, to which is attached the pin 70, passing through the slot 0 and then attached to a block Z at the end of spindle d. The collar j is grooved to accommodate a friction roller or collar m, furnished with the stud n, which passes freely through the lever 6. One end of spindle d is surrounded by'the tubular sleeve 0, between one end of whichand the block lie the spiral spring 19. Through spindle d is placed a stop-pin q or an equivalent. To the end of shaft 17 which extends beyond the end of one of the bearings of one of the supports a is fastened a rectangular frame or table 1, of greater length than breadth, the spindle 01 extending along the middle of it and being kept central by passing through cross-bars 5, connecting the opposite sides of frame 7'. To spindle d is attached the eared lug t, and to sleeve 0 the eared lug t, and to lugs 25 and t are pivoted slotted arms u and at, whose slotted ends pass through thesides of frame 4", pins 1 passing through frame r and easily drawn over them. At the center of the end frame 0 nearest the hollow shaftb I fix upstanding pins or points 2, one on each side of the frame, and these pins may be made to remove as and when required.

In assembling the parts together in the first instance I arrange that when the lever e is at the extreme outer end of the rack h the side battens 00 are close to the frame 0", as shown in full lines in the drawings.

The action of the apparatus is as follows: The frame 1" and the side battens 0c are inserted in the mouth of the sack orlike, which is then drawn to the rack end of the apparatus, and the mouth ends of the sides of the sack or the like may be passed over the pins or points z to prevent cross-puckering. The lever e is then drawn toward the frame r, as shown in dotted lines,-whereupon the battens a will be moved away from the frame or table r and so distend the sack or the like, which may then be cleaned first on one side and then on the other by turning over the frame 4". The center of r may be paneled on one or both sides. provided at the top of the bearing carrying the end of shaft 1) nearest the framerfor the purpose of retaining the tubular shaft 1) in position when the required side of frame 1" is-uppermost. When the lever 6 has been brought over by usual force, it can be moved a little farther byapplying greater pressure, so as to overcome the spring 19. This causes the extreme arms a to be pushed out to a greater extent than arms a, the stop-pin q preventing the spring 19 drawing spindled back too far.

The machine can be used for repairing as Well as cleaning sacks or the like.

The various parts of the apparatus may be of appropriate and convenient materials, the
